38 special in a 357 will leave a nice carbon ring in the chambers. But how does that gap between cartridge case and the forcing cone affect the actual accuracy of the fired projectile?

I ask because im debating if 44 russian would have that level of accuracy as some report with 38 swc in a 357, if i shoot it out of a nice 44 magnum for target practice?

The gap a wadcutter has to jump might cause a loss of accuracy. I've never seen any. The dreaded carbon ring left by firing 38s in a 357 is only a problem to those who don't clean their revolvers properly. As for the 44 Russian in a 44 mag you just need to try it.

Jumping the gap will cause some lost of accuracy, but nothing significant.

I'm wondering why you're thinking of using 44 Russian rounds and not 44 Special?

No different than shooting .38's in a .357. Not much different than shooting .44 Spls. in a .44 Mag either. There is a big jump and crimp is much more important, but it will work fine. I played around with .44 Russian in a .44 Spl. and a .44 Mag, but discontinued it because there was nothing gained but more cleaning. I can reduce loads for the .44 Mag or Spl. and get the same results.

i was thinking on some real cheap practice ammo. Can get 50 rounds of 44 russian for 14/50 rounds through the mail and still come out ahead on prices for 44 mag locally.
And i was thinking it would be a far better thing to use on woodchucks copared to 22lr.
