i was wondering if anybody's USP45 has rattling disconnector (item 23 in manual) when you hold and shake the gun. after cleaning the frame and using teflon dry lube, the disconnector seems to have free movement.

it doesn't rattle when the slide is locked back. everything else seems normal.
i guess not a lot of people know about this since not much help from hkpro either.
here's couple of pics. the part that is rattling is in green while there's a gap in red. can anyone verify that there's a gap? if so, where is the gap in your usp 45 (if any)?

I have the USP45 and there are no gaps in that area at all. I have a minor amount or rattle when I shake the gun, but that's between the slide and the receiver. I'll gladly measure the parts for you for comparision, if you like. I'd do it now, but I just locked it up and I'm tired, so I'll get to it later.

When bone dry you can get a bit of rattle exactly where your photo shows. A drop of oil or a TINY dab of grease and the rattle will cease. No problem with the gun.

Morgan has a good point.

My SIG 229 had a problem with the trigger rattling like a maraka. I applied some grease in there and now the trigger feels just like my other SIGs with no rattling.

Forgot to add.....

Were talking about parts #23 (disconnector) and #25 (catch). Part # 25A (control latch) is in between #23 and #25.

I just looked at my USP .45, all the parts mentioned do have side to side movement since they all ride in the same pin (#24 sear axle) So it's pretty normal. I will bet that putting some lube will stop the rattling.

If you want a rattle, get a Ruger

A little rattle isn't the end of the world. I've seen Rugers that could qualify as instruments and are still quite accurate and are the definition of reliability.

Those USPs are nice, expecially that 10-shot .45. A dozen in the standard mags would make it even better.

I have three USP 45s and none of them have that gap (red arrow) and only the Compact rattles (like 10-Ring said). Something isn't right there.

USP owners only

yeah this is pretty much completely dry, since i remove all oil and just add dry teflon lubricant. this is the USP45 Full size.
this is strange, others don't report a gap like that. i check the manual where they have exploded view, it seems that i have all the parts (if you look from the front of the gun, left to right): disconnector (23), control latch (25A), catch (25), sear (34).
larryw, am i missing something here? this gun never rattles on me, not the slide, not the frame. everything is in tight excellent fit spec until i dry it and put teflon on

timbo, can you please compare mine with your usp to see if this looks OK?

thanks guys.

Gudel - Okay, I just pulled out all six of my USPs, all full-size models. Every one of them has a tiny bit of free play between the bits on the sear axle. My USP45s have a little more space there, probably as the frame is a tiny bit wider and the parts are the same as in the 9mm and .40.

Again, you DO NOT have a problem. A drop of oil or dab of grease, shoot and enjoy.

alrighty, it's all cool then. it's just that i never heard the rattling before, so it surprises me because it never did that before. i think i'll stick some oil there. everything else seems to work, i can use the control lever, cock the hammer, pull the trigger it goes etc. no problem with functionality it seems.

Yeah, when I got my first USP40 many, many moons ago (paid $375 for it - that's how long ago), I could hear that tiny little rattle from my holster, mostly when climbing stairs. Drove me nuts at first, as this was my first real (read quality) gun. Was told to dab grease or oil there, and haven't looked back.

Here's a picture of my two 45F frames (F and Expert). Note gap isn't big enough to slide a business card in. Lubed using capillary action.

Regarding the different frame sizes and same parts: I'm sure a company with HK's engineering abilities could figure out how to mold the frame to fit the parts properly without the huge tolerances shown in gudel's pics.

Well, the pictures in larryw's post pretty much show how mine looks. I couldn't see a visible gap in between any of those parts.

no doubt.

this is very strange. so i decided to count all the parts, as if i'm missing something.
here's a picture of mine. looks like all parts counted, except for the gap.
well i guess i'm just gonna have to suck it up. :(

thanks larryw, i don't have micrometer, but i think this is pretty close, here's a pic of the frame with a ruler
