I live in the boonies. So I buy my reloading components on line.

But the problem is my orders seem to get lost in the USPS system ......for days & weeks

I wish more websites selling bullets - brass .......etc

would give other option's besides USPS for shipping

In my neck of the woods they suck & that is being polite

UPS & Fed X are great no problem .......usps .....SUCKS

just an FYI to any of the folks who sell components .......here

I don't feel sorry for you, my friend. You live in a wonderful, beautiful place, and it sounds like you have time to spend both outdoors and reloading. Just buy in bulk so there is a lot more time between shipments and a lot less worrying about the reliability of the USPS. Count your blessings! There are people on here from NY and CA!

And folks are on here from New Jersey and Maryland. I love the U.P. and its Great Lakes and forests and hunting, and so also believe that you are a very lucky Man!

Hello Da Yooper,

Around where I live UPS, FEDEX,DHL all hand off parcel delivery to USPS because they cannot handle the load they commit to. You can get them to send their ultra fast (ultra expensive) service overnight but the price is going to make you stop and think. You can order a replacement steak knife for a your wife but the super duper overnight from Big Brown can cost more than the every knife on the table.

make sure your address is in the correct format;meaning the new 911 addresses. if you have an address that reads "RR4 BOX 321" for instance, your mail will be delayed because the usps system is no longer designed for that and they don't know where to send it to. usps doesnt suck. they move an enormous amount of stuff faster and cheaper than any business around

The problem is most likely with your individual USPS office. I've used all of the major shippers and have had fewer problems with USPS than Fed-EX or UPS. Hang around the internet long enough and you'll hear horror stories about all of them.

Ive had similar experiences, and we live in a very rural area.

I much prefer the USPS over the others if its a choice, both shipping and receiving. Its usually a good bit faster, and with less aggravation.

Dunno about the UP, but here in 'Podunk', VT I have no issues with USPS...

In fact, I prefer their punctuality to UPS Ground who will show up when they have enough deliveries to justify coming this way...

"During rain, wind, or snow... we suck"

USPS unofficial motto

I feel you OP. I use FedEx or UPS every chance I get, and only use USPS for letters and small packages.

Another country boy.

FedEx. What does FedEx truck look like?

UPS. Seeing the brown truck.is getting rarer and rarer. Use to be once a week. Now???

USPS. Everyday mail delivery. UPS has been transferring my deliveries to USPS. It takes a extra day.

I have a delivery from Midway that shows the latest status as "scheduled delivery Sat 10/01/2016". The USPS just now delifered that package to my door along with the rest of my mail. Two (2) days early seems pretty good.
I guess not all USPS has problems.

I'm always baffled (going back decades) when I hear these complaints about the USPS. I've been saying for years the the US Postal Service was by far my #1 favorite federal agency !:D
I have never had them lose a package or letter, and I don't think I personally know anyone that has. My mother has been a highly prolific user of the USPS for well over half a century, and she swears by them, and has told me they've never lost any of her stuff.
They cost much less than the others, and in my experience, are nearly always faster. If i order something from withing a couple states of me, I will very often receive it in 2 days !! And that's their basic, cheap 1st class option. Anything ordered from anywhere east of the Mississippi (and sometimes states just west of it like Kansas or Texas), will often arrive on only 3 days.
Plus, they deliver on Saturday, which UPS doesn't do.
Next time a buisnesses website gives you the option of USPS,Fed-Ex, and UPS, click on all the options and check the different prices.
The USPS will often be around $5-6, while Fed-Ex will be $10+, and UPS will be well beyond that, oftentimes a ludicrous $18 for some tiny piece of nothing.
In my experience, the US Postal Service is one of the few governmental agencies that actually does something truly useful, and does it with a degree of competence and economy that all the others should learn from. ;)

I can't remember the amount of times my mail lady has backed into my driveway, knocked on the door and asked me to help her with the box full of bullets, out of her car.......and yes she knows they're bullets.

Da Yooper.....your products are probably coming most of the way to your place the same way mine come. Since I have never had the USPS lose any shipment from reloading suppliers, I'm guessing it must be a local issue. Just where at in the U.P. are you located? Anywhere near Watersmeet?

If you are having a local USPS problem, call USPS consumer affairs for your region.

Have some tracking numbers for them to look up.

I had the problem with an over $100.00 item for my boat from Bass Pro Shop. Kept checking the tracking and it made it to Louisville (65 miles away) in a couple of days, then 7 days later never moved. I went to my local post office and they called Louisville. The answer was it was shipped Regular Post (or some such thing) which was the lowest price shipping there is. (no matter I paid 14.50 shipping and handling). i was told it doesn't move until the entire bin is emptied, which may take a few days.

Funny though, after I complained, it was here a day later. Still took almost 2 weeks to get here.

Thanks for all the replies ........some more info I was told today from my local post office the 3 day priority mail if it fits it ships can take up 18 days to arrive before they consider it ........late. Unfreakin believable

What I dont understand & the manager of my local PO can not explain is why a item I buy in Oregon goes to New York & stays for 3 days ......then it appears in Chicago stays for 3 days then goes to Houston for 2 days & then back to Chicago & then 3 stops in Wisconsin before the 2 stops in the UP.....total time traveling 15 days. This kind of thing happens all the time.

If you are having a local USPS problem, call USPS consumer affairs for your region.

I have done this & all I get is the $ Hit happens excuse

Anywhere near Watersmeet?

no about 3 hours east of you

Try living in Guatemala as I have. You will cry every day to have the USPS. Not just for gun items. For a long awaited letter from Aunt Agatha! :D

We have the best postal service on the planet.

USPS flat rate boxes that cost $15 can hold 70lbs.

Do not attempt to put anywhere near 70 pounds into a flat rate box. The boxes are not very strong, and are likely to break open if heavily loaded. If your box breaks open, there is a good possibility that a postal worker who does not know the difference between reloading components and live ammo will freak out and call in the postal inspectors to investigate whether you are receiving or sending illegal items. Hopefully, a competent postal inspector would know the difference between components and live ammo, and your broken box will be delivered after a few days delay.

My sense of people talking about USPS is that it's the blind men describing the elephant. I've lived places where it was very good, and places where it was very bad.

Unfortunately, in the places where it's bad, there doesn't seem to be much recourse.

Anecdote alert: once had a small shipment inbound. On day X online status changed to 'Out for delivery'. Still no package on day X+5, so I printed out the tracking page and stood in line for 30 minutes to get to a window. "Hey, this seems to be 'Out for Delivery' for a long time". Told to wait for supervisor. 20 min later he comes up, takes the printout, says he'll look into it and call me. Neither call or package on day X+15, go back, wait 30+20 minutes, it's the same supervisor. "Hey, remember me?". He takes the printout, promises to call. On day X+30, still 'Out for delivery', no package, no call, I go back. The exact scenario plays out again, same supervisor, same promises.

Never did get a call or explanation, but the package arrived six months later.

That's one of many stories for that post office. Other post offices are great.

I live in a rural area, 30 miles west of Colorado Springs, haven't had any issues with USPS. When I buy from RMR, I purchase the $3 insurance, just as a safeguard.

Personally I prefer USPS shipping. Cheaper rates and better service than UPS and FedEx in my area. UPS doesn't know what a doorbell is for and leaves my packages sitting on the doorstep for any passerby to see. FedEx has started dumping their deliveries at the post office where I have to pay an additional charge to get my package. I always choose USPS shipping if it's available. I live a few miles from town.
