I know this was discussed prior to the forum changes, but I haven't been able to locate the information. I have a UT non resident CCW that I used to use in CO prior to the change in permit recognition earlier this year.

I have now relocated to CO. I believe that there was a 6 month window where the change in permit recognition did not apply to new CO residents. I read this to mean I can use my UT permit until 6 months have passed, or I have gained a CO permit.

Can anyone clarify this for me?

Thanks in advance, anotherKevin.

I don't believe that the UT non-resident permit is good even if you become a CO resident or have recently moved there. Play it safe & get the CO resident permit.

Also

Open carry outside of Metro Denver is OK so is CCW in your vehicle when traveling everywhere in the state.

As I understand it, unless you moved here from Utah, your Utah permit has been totally useless in Colorado since the new law went into effect (July 1??). Your CCW permit has to be issued by your state of residence, and that state must have reciprocity with Colorado in order to legally carry concealed here.

The exception is for new residents - you have 90 days after becoming a Colorado resident to obtain a Colorado CHL. Not to apply for, but to obtain. The process can take as long as 90 days in some counties, as short as 2 weeks in others. During the first 90 days that you're a resident here, you can continue to use the permit issued by your previous state of residence, as long as that state has reciprocity. For purposes of this law, you become a resident on the day you get your Colorado DL. There's another law on the books stating that you have to get that DL within 30 days of moving here.

So if you moved here from Nebraska and are carrying a Utah permit, you're not legally permitted to carry concealed.
If you moved here from Nebraska and are carrying a Nebraska permit, you're still not legal since NE does not have reciprocity.
If you moved here from Arizona and are carrying an Arizona permit, you'll be legal for the first 90 days that you're a resident. After that, you must have a Colorado permit.

I could be wrong, but that's the way I understand it.

There's some helpful info on the RMGO website, but as others have suggested, go directly to the source for the best info (CBI).

Thanks everyone, I guess it was wishful thinking. I will be getting the CO permit, but was hoping to be covered during the gap. Oh well.
