Utah: Anyone been to CRW gun show?

I came to THR today to post about my experience at the show (In Sandy UT, near SLC) yesterday.
DO NOT GO. I have several reasons for saying this.
First, the reason I came on to post:
Crossroads has posted large signs telling CCW holders they must DISARM before entering the show.
They have a table at the entrance where a CCW holder must clear and check their weapon.They explain this by saying they have had 14 ND's at various shows over (18 ?) years and "people have a right to expect that all weapons in the show are unloaded".
See where this is heading ?
There was nothing to indicate that legal CCW holders had ANYTHING to do with the ND's.
The other reason not to go is that it simply SUCKS. I got some ammo from Miwall, and saved on shipping, so with the $9.00 entrance fee it was pretty much a wash.You couldn't find a good quality mag or 1911 part in there to save your life, but plenty of jewelry, jerky, junk swords and overpriced folding knives. (not to mention the usual NeoNazi table with white supremacist lit.)
With that said, there were long lines to get in, the longest I have ever seen. The few tables where sellable guns were displayed had people 5 and 6 layers deep. I think we all know why the turnout was so good.
I wish I had stayed away and would suggest the same for you.

I too, haven’t missed a Crossroads of the West Gun Show except for perhaps 3-4 times in the last 10 years. Just counting those in Salt Lake City.

If you are going to the show to try out holsters fine. But if, while trying on a new Galco you start shoving your loaded Glock into a too tight holster next to me, I may, for personal safety concerns, spontaneously “disarm†you or at least move me and my family away from you. Who wouldn’t? That scenario and other related ones are the main reason for the “policyâ€
There are several reasons for the “disarm†policy-- which is actually an “unload†policy.
What most people don’t know is that Guns Shows almost and might still go the way of the dinosaur. Insurance is required at all venues yet getting extremely hard to get at any price. This is part of the reason for the increase in entrance fees. Insurance rules require promoters to monitor and restrict unloaded firearms at all shows. If there is one more negligent discharge at a show, even with the increased insurance premiums, that will be the last show in Utah, California, Nevada or anywhere that underwriter insures shows.
Most CCW holders “keep it concealed†and as far as I am concerned that is the way it should be allowed at the show. There are those however who take their carry gun to the show with the intention of sampling grips, holsters, magazines, etc… and are taking it out of their pants in a loaded condition to try such items. If you are going to do that fine, but then “carry†a different gat and unload your normal carry piece for the show.
Also if you posses a CCW you are not in violation of any law if you don’t unload you concealed carry piece. The announcement over the PA systems belies this, “ We strongly “request†that you unload your firearms prior to coming into the showâ€
Theft has been another issue at these shows. It makes it a lot easier if you have declared your gun and had a sticker placed on it rather than trying to explain later should someone see it and think it was lifted from a table.
The director of the CRW shows is in the top 2% of true 2nd Amendment supporters and fighters, he gives a lot of time and lots and lots and lots of $$$$ to the cause. He supports no compromise issues regarding the right to keep and bear arms. He would be right at home on these pages.
What is not said should be loud to those who are complaining, if you keep it concealed, who cares, who is going to know, who is going to worry?
As far as the jerky, jewelry and whatever else they sell at the show, as long as they still have guns there and still call it a gun show it will always have value. I go to these shows with no intention of buying guns, ammo, or other gun related items. (I get mine at cost) Rather I go to network with other supporters, to yak with folks who may not be apprised of the gun control issue du’jour. This time of year I update folks regarding legislative issues on Utah’s Capitol Hill.
Gun shows across the nation are often times a bimonthly gun rights rally. It also scares the #*% out of the anti’s to think that we are all meeting together talking, scheming, planning and strategizing.
Make no mistake; I don’t like being unloaded which is disarmed. But don’t think that CRW has some hidden anti-gun agenda that they are promoting by requesting such at the shows.

I understand the check in at the front. Big deal. Concealed is concealed. I've never checked my CCW, and I'm sure 80% of the rest of the people there are packing as well. Crossroads has to cover themselves or their insurance will eat them alive.
And as for the show itself, I have found some incredible deals there over the last few years. You just have to know what you are looking for.
As for the swords and junk like that, skip them. It is that easy.

I personally have no problen with the unload policy! There are far too many "mucho macho" idiots at most of these shows. On both sides of the tables!
I also go to the promoter and complain LOUDLY whenever there is a table with Neo-Nazi or John Birch type hate material. I also complain about the jewelry, jerky and junk.
If more of you would complain, it might get stopped. Don't complain to the folks on this forum, complain to the promoter, preferably in writing!
We are already unfairly branded by the media as right wing kooks. IMHO, it makes no sense whatsoever to add fuel to the fire by having idiots running around gun shows passing out hate literature!

No, I just don't go to gunshows. I have better things to do with my time.
Cheygriz, I missed the part where the Birchers became a nazi hate group. I've got some friends who are Birchers, the only people they hate are communists and socialists. Sounds good to me.

I'm glad to know that there may be some who really only hate real communists.
The problem I've run into with this group is that all of them that I've met consider anybody who isn't a Bircher to be a communist.

CRW observations
I go to the gun show for one main reason:
Beats the hell out of driving all over town!
My observations from this show:
More crowded then I've ever seen. Waited 10 minutes to buy a ticket, and alot of the booths were over crowded.
Chriopracter (sp?) booth had a hottie in a mini skirt
Saw one idiot walking along with a brand new full frame revolver...finger on the trigger (oh, but it was pointed down )
An arse-load of Uzis....
There is always alot of foof and junk. But, if it will keep the gun show going, I'm for it, as long as i find milsurp, guns, ammo, and outdoors gear I'll continue to go.
Saw a couple of deals, but most guns were priced typically. Saw an SAR3 for dirt cheap, though ($150)
Heard a story about a dolly tire blowing out, causing a little bit of a comotion, suppossedly sounded just like an AD
And if I plan on handling my firearm, I will clear it at the front desk. If its staying concealed the whole time....well isn't that the purpose of a concealed weapon?!?
I don't blame the show for wanting weapons to be ammo free. I've seen atrocious gun handling every time, and in that close of quarters...its a recipe for disaster. Its their liability on the line, not ours.
