Several of us High Roaders (Utah Chapter) had a great get together and shoot near Strawberry Reservior. I took a few pics. I missed out on part of the adventure so I'll type my 2 cents and rely on the others for the review the rest.

Doug (B.I.L.) and I headed up at about 6am Saturday morning. The rest of the bunch had spent the night. Strawberry is about an hour and a half drive from my house. The weather did not look promising. We did not have too much trouble locating the camp. It was raining pretty good when we got there.

We got to meet everyone right away. I know I'll forget someone so I'll apologize in advance. There was GOET, his Brother, his Wife, skyder, CrudeGT, Ben Shepard, and Larry Corea who had all spent Friday night camping. I hear they were treated to some great cooking by GOET's wife. CrudeGT experienced baptism by fire as this was his first camping trip. He ended up sleeping on the picnic table in the rain. Luckily people had extra blankets and he weathered the storm alright.

It cleared up a couple of hours after we arrive and we set out for the shooting spot that had been picked out the night before. B.I.L. and I were loaded for bear with just about every firearm we own. We also brought along plenty of stuff to shoot at. There were a lot of great guns brought to the shoot. I have to give the award to skyder for having the coolest toys.

Now enough rambling. I'll get to the pics.

Larry Correa give our bowling pin shoot a try. He had a great time of 3.83 which stood as the best for most of the day. He was finally knocked out of the number one spot by me. Somehow I was able to pull of a 3.27 with my new Springfield Loaded.

Doug and I made some lifesize cutout targets a while back. They were made by tracing Doug's outline on the cardboard while he layed on it. We have affectionately called these targets "The Dougs". So here we have Doug with Doug.

Larry Correa tries out Doug's ultimate home defense pistol. A Springfield XD9 equiped with an M6 and a 32 round preban magazine. If you look close, you can see two 9mm casing flying next to Larry's head.

That's some beautiful country out there......

Great pics. Hope you all had as much fun as it looks like....

Ben Shepard gets ready to give my M4gery a go. All my guns have names. This one is called "G.I. Joe".

CrudeGT and Ben Shepard. With a huge collection of guns and ammo. Notice the 3 "Dougs" in the background. These were set up for Larry's "El Presendente" shoot. That was pretty fun.

After the mayhem, CrudeGT, B.I.L., myself, and Ben Shepard cleaned the place up. Everyone else had to get back home. We had a fantastic time. It was fun to meet some High Road members and be able to put a name to the faces.

Ben, B.I.L. and I went back to camp as we had planned to spend the night. We fixed dinner and B.S.'d by the campfire for several hours. I came to the conclusion that Ben needs to change his name on this forum to "Hand Cannon". That boy has some serious revolvers!

Doug and I stopped and headed up Main Canyon on the way back and shot some CZ pistols. I'll put together a report on that when time allows.

Thanks everyone for a great time.

I know that others took some pics so there may be more to see.

We missed you George!

Dammit, dammit, dammit! I can tell just from the pictures that you guys were having a blast.

It's nice to see you guys (that I've met before) at least in pictures. Sorry I couldn't be there.

12 Volt, you're the master of the 2-rifle pose. I almost didn't recognize Doug with the shaved head!

So, who else was MIA? Myself, PCRCCW + wifey, George... and where was USMC?

Hopefully we can put together another outing before the summer ends. I could always use some of Correia's Instructorly advice. ;) I'll save my case of outdated Coke for the next go-'round.

Truly bummed,
Wes

Not crossdraw, that is a rifle mag pouch.

We had a great time. The camp out was fun. It got chilly and wet but I think everybody had sufficient gear to sleep in relative comfort. Ben's scouting skills and knowledge of how to rig tarps and blantets kept Crude alive through the night. :)

Chris made us shrimp kabobs. Very nice of her. It was a welcome change from beef jerky.

We did a little shooting Friday night. Mostly picking on rocks with rifles. Though Ben and I proved that 100 yard pistol shooting is a piece of cake if you know your hold over.

Saturday shooting was fun. We got to try lots of different guns. I tried to buy Syder's Bushmaster bullpup off of him, but he wouldn't part with it. I was very impressed with the CZ P01, the mega XD in the pic above, Ben's Super Redhawk (the definition of "hot load"). I got to shoot the CZ97 that belonged to me once upon a time for a few hours.

We did some Mozambique drills. 10 yards. From the low ready. These guys about sprained something trying to beat me. :p I can do 1.5-1.7 at that pretty much every time all day. 7.5 El Prez. AND I think I won the game of poker the night before too. :p

I'm not very good at bowling pins though!

I think I had the most fun just sitting around the campfire and shooting the bull with other good folks. I never cease to be amazed by the quality of people that boards like THR and TFL attract. Lots of fun.

George, buddy I am going to give you a never ending ration of crap for not coming to this one. :)

These pictures had me beating my head on my desk.

If you guys want to know what was up... I had a baptism to perform on a little cousin in law. After being up all night and taking one of my boys to the ER, then that, and then taking my oldest to his Scout camp thing - I was going to run out there but I was just too exhausted.

I did get to go see Riddick... But that was balanced out by a huge ticket thanks to a Utah Highway Patrol running radar on a back road out in the middle of freaking nowhere... practically dirt... So my weekend sucked and I'd rather not talk about it.

Looks beautiful. I'm glad the Gathering was a success.

DANG DANG DANG.
:banghead:

Nice timer...who makes that one? Boy is it small.
Can you set par time on it...what about splits?

guns_009.jpg

Actually Jack, a certain idiot forgot to bring a real timer. :p Since I had forgotten a timer, we went old school like they used to do at the dawn of IPSC and used multiple stop watches and took the average. Not exactly scientific, but close enough for screwing around purposes.

That timer is your very special Walmart $3.49 digital stopwatch.

That is one of the things we were missing fromt the shoot. A decent timer would have been cool.

meeting all you folks was great. I'm glad I stayed the night Friday, and did not die, with the help of the entire crowd. Like I said I'm not used to being that far away from a Wendy's so I was a bit unprepared. but thanx to Chris' great cooking (the kabobs were delicious), Ben's ability to turn a picnic table into a luxury bed, and Skyders delicious canned breakfast, I had a great time. I've got some great pics I need to DL then I'll add to this post. George you really missed out. But it sounds like you had your own stuff to take care of, so no one can blame ya.

So how many of us are sporting shaved heads?
Since I'm headblading again too... that makes what 4 or 5?

It's pretty much the only way to survive the heat out here...
Shaved head and a wet bandana.

I still have all my hair. At the first sign of losing it, I will break out the bic. I figure there is no use fighting it.

I joined the bic'd head club a few months back. only way to go. I need to get some more bandana's, but I'm lovin it.

I'm glad you guys enjoyed the cooking. I was happy to meet everyone and put faces to the people my hubby talks about all the time. I was disappointed that not as many people showed as I had thought would. Maybe it's time to plan round 2. Before the summer is over and the real cold sets in. And I'll bring more goodies to keep the beef jerky dependants alive. Thanks for the fun times and laughs (at Crude's expense- sorry). Your Kabob Queen- Kristin (Goet's much better half).

Most memorable quote of the night

ben "here, grab this side and pull it over"
Crude(after 15 beers) after a few failed attempts "I'm drunk, you do it"

It's the most memorable because it's about all I remember.

I do owe Ben a lot, he pretty much saved me from freezing to death, and that table ended up to be pretty darn comfy.

Hey Volt - did you guys try out the Armorer's Ultimate lube? I was going to bring the samples with me... You had some too did you bring them?

You guys try it out? What did you think?

i meant to grab one of those free samples. Hey George, if I send you my address, think you could mail me one of them? how big is the sample? is there enough in there for 2 handguns?

Roxygss had a Phoenix Arms .22 that was freezing up with misfeed after misfeed (no surprise).

We broke it down and smeared that Ult. Arm. Lube on it. After searching for 5 minutes for a wayward spring, I ended up putting some CLP to get the slide to work better.

Damn sorry I missed it.
I'll be up in the high Uintas early tomorrow until late thursday. Anyone know what the trout are biting on?
:D
such wide open spaces
Which is why I love living out west.
I'm a North Carolina boy at heart, but there is just something about miles of rolling hills with no buildings or people. 10,000 foot snow capped mountains in June, trout fishing on wild streams, and clean mountain air.

A couple of guys took a sample of Armorer's Ultimate.

I had cleaned a couple of my guns with it before heading up there. Then cleaned them again when I got home. I like it. I am usually a Breakfree guy because I can grab it at the local stores. I like FP-10 alot when I can get it.

I liked this product better than breakfree and I feel it is equally as good as FP-10. Plus there is a CZ pistol right on the bottle. How can you go wrong with that? I don't know about rust prevention yet. But it does clean and lube well.

I am heading out of town in the morning for the rest of the week and I am going to write up a better review on it when I get back.
