As I posted in the "plan a big one" thread I'm a bit overwound and need a break. I'm going to take an afternoon off next week and go warm up some pistols, maybe an sks or bushy too. Anyone want to go? I'll be going the The Shooting Academy in Lindon, about 20 minutes south of downtown SLC. Haven't decided which day yet, so if you have a preference let me know.

Any and all welcome, I'd love to meet some more of you guys before our June event.

Come on guys, normally I like to shoot alone, but I'm in a "mood".

Maybe we could play a little "You shoot mine, I'll shoot yours?", eh?:D

Edit: Just talked to the guy that runs the range, Monday or Tuesday is our best bet, Wednesday they have an IDPA match, so it's out. Thursday and Friday they have "ladies nights", not a big deal other than it can get a little crowded. He said he would be willing to reserve some lanes for me on Mon. or Tues. I just need to let him know.

SORRY ABOUT THE SHORT NOTICE!!!

I'll see if I can work something out. Work has gotten balls-to-the-wall busy, so I only have Thursday off... Other days I may be able to, just depending on the time of day.

Just let me know what you're planning on (time and day) and I'll see if I can make it work.

Thanks for the invitation! :D

Wes

Thursday it is then. Early in the day(before 4:00) is usually good, there's usually very few people before then. After 4 is doable but it will be busy with ladies night and everyone else getting off work and coming in.

Just let me know what time you can come down.

Anyone else want in? (CrudeGT here's your invite!)

Count me in. I'll bring the 9 mm rounds.

Fumegator, if you live up here in Salt Lake, do you wanna get together and carpool down there?

Give a me a call, anytime, I work Monday & Tuesday nights, so leave a message if I don't answer. 801.815.0899 Name's Jim.

I can't wait.

Hey Crude.

I don't live in SLC, but I'm close by in Tooele. What part of SLC are you in? Maybe I could drop by on my way and pick you up?

Is it okay if I invite a friend? He's slightly newer to the handgun (or non-hunting firearm use) scene and would like to be around/see/use as many new guns as possible.

What are you guys bringning? I just figured on bringing my 2 HPs, since my only other gun is a shotty.

Ben, you don't have an address for the shooting academy, do you?

Wes

The more the merrier as far I'm concerned.

I live in Murray, but we can meet someone closer to the freeway, how about the Home Depot on 2100 S and 300W? It's just east of the i-15 sr201 interchange.

I'll be bringing a Ruger 9mm, and my mossberg shortgun. And i've got about 700 rounds of 9mm, so don't worry about 9mm ammo, I got that covered.

If we are planning on being at the range and shooting by 4, we'll probably want to meet up around 3:00, and thn we can head down to Lindon, and meet up with Ben around 3:30. how's that sound?

That sounds great. I'll get in touch with my friend and see what he has to say.

This is going to be a ton of fun. :D

Wes

I'm getting excited already. I haven't been shooting in a little bit, so don't laugh if I can't hit anything for the first while.

Yeah, the address is 55 North 1400 West, Lindon. It can be a little tricky to find though.

Get off the 1600 North Lindon exit, turn right. Turn right on Geneva road, go until you see the redman storage building on the right and turn left over the tracks. Go down to where to the road tees out and turn right. It will be at the end of the road. In fact if you want I can meet you at the corner of Geneva road and 1600, and you can just follow me. Cost is $6 IIRC.

Cool. Thanks for the info, Ben.

I'm looking forward to shooting almost as much as meeting you guys!

My friend sounded interested, so I'll keep at him. I may also get in touch with an old friend with an AK, SKS, CETME, all kinds of fun stuff.

Wes

I just called the range(Mon. 11:41am), I've got lanes reserved for 1-4 pm on Thurs., including the rifle lane. So lets meet up about 12:45 at the corner of Geneva Road and 1600 north. Any questions, just P.M. me for contact info. Afterwords if we're hungry there's a great burger & shake place about 10 minutes away. They usually charge 6 bucks an hour. But he said we can do 7.50 per person for the time block.

4 might be getting into when the ladies start showing up, so we may have to pack it up a little before then(Most likely not though, I told them that you guys are making a pretty good road trip for this, and they said they'll work with us). They have a good selection of targets or you can bring your own. Glasses and muffs are included in the price, but they aren't the best, as they get pretty beat up. I recommend you bring your own. I also suggest doubling up on the ears, both plugs and muffs. Rifles can get a bit ummm...."rude" indoors.:D

See ya thursday!!!!! If someone has a digital camera and wants to post a range report w/pictures bring it!

One more thing on the rifles:

They only allow them in lane 1, so we may have to switch off quite a bit if we all bring them(which is fine with me). My brother is coming too, but he won't be there till 3. He's bringing his FAL for a good work out. I'm going to do mostly pistol, but I'll bring one of the SKSs and a bushy to play with a little. Also steel jacket(as in commie surplus) ammo is cool, but no AP rounds are allowed.

I'll bring some of my heavy loads for my 44 too. You're all welcome to try anything I bring if you want.

I'll have my 9mm and my Shotty, I may be picking up another gun before then, I haven't made up my mind yet if I should budget it or not. I probably will though.

I'll be there, I've got 2 more friends that want to get into shooting, so might bring one of them.

Sweet, do they have a preferance over shot or slug? i would presume slug only, so I'm not sending shot into other people's targets.

Shot's cool. If you want to run them clear down to 25 yards with birdshot, you'll hit other targets. Otherwise your gun should pattern tight enough it wont be a problem. If it won't pattern that tight you need a different load anyway.

That's a good point. All I've got right now is shot, only because it was given to me. I need to pick up some slug rounds for home defense.

I reccomend you stop by sportsmans wharehouse, they have tons of different slug and buckshot loads.

Well, i made it to Sportsman's warehouse, didn't make it to the shotgun round section before i got sidetracked looking at all the hanguns. Ended up buying a new SA XD40. I think i'll have more fun with this than I would with shotgun rounds. :D I'll pick up some more 12g, and .40 rounds before we head down on thursday

GT, I got my XD40 there too. The cheapest ammo I've found is still the Winchester bulk pack at Walmart, 100/$15.96, but it seems like they sell it out pretty frequently.

Alright guys, I'm running into trouble.

My friend is showing some strong signs of flaking on me, and he was going to drive. I can try to use my mom's minivan (read: gas mileage), but it'll be iffy. I'll let you all know how this goes.

:cuss: I am so sick of 1) shooting trips not working out and 2) this friend flaking out on me. :cuss: :fire:

Wes :banghead:

I went to Wally world today and got 100 rounds of whitebox, they only had the 50rd boxes, so it was $20 for 100 rds, still a good price.

Dave, are you coming to? I'm probably going to leave salt lake around 12:15, if anyone wants to caravan or carpool, give me a call, my number is 801.815.0899.

Fumegator, I can probably help you out with a ride, if you can pitch in some gas money, salt lake to Tooele to Lindon and back is not cheap, especially with a sports car.

Hey guys, GOOD NEWS for once.

My mom took my beast to work and left me her minivan. Looks like things are a go.

CrudeGT, do you still want to meet at the same place (Home Depot on 2100)?

I guess I'll see if my friend still wants to go too...

Wes

Wes, where's our pictures pal?:D

It was a good break from work yesterday guys, thanks for coming down. Glad I could meet some more THR members. I'll let the others fill in the range report. I'm back at work and we're shorthanded.....again(nawwww.....we're never shorthanded :scrutiny: ).
