Hey guys,

Ive been on this site for a short time. Lots of info on just about anything, esp guns.

Ive looked around on some sites that had been linked here pertaining to CCW. I havent been able to find anything specific to my question.
I work for a company delivering building materials, and do alot of other stuff to when Im not on the road. But driving is what I try to do the most. I have a class B CDL to drive our bigger trucks.
My question is:
Can I CC in a commercial vehicle?? I asked this question a year or so ago on a different forum(non-gun related) and was told NO. But Ive looked and read the laws on many different sites and havent seen anything telling me I cant carry in a commercial truck.
But I dont want to do it, then get into trouble with the law if its illegal.

Im sure some folks here would know the answer.

Thanks.
Matt

Yes

Matt,

You can carry in a commercial vehicle if you can legally carry in the state you are in. There are no federal laws that say just because you are in a commerical l Vehicle you can not carry. What I have seen over the years is the companies who own the businesses have rules against their drivers carrying weapons. You still are not breaking a law if you carry if you can legally carry in that state you are just breaking a company rule.

I drive a company vehicle on a daily basis. Our written policy states no weapons in company vehicles, but the owners pretty much turn a blind eye to ccw holders. I have heard some employees mention an OSHA violation for carrying in a company vehicle, but I am not sure if there is anything to this.

Thanks for the response guys.

I just got my CCW permit a couple months, and right now I dont carry on a daily basis. Mainly b/c I dont have a good holster to conceal with. I like my XD9 Service model, but I think carrying at work it would be heavy and get in the way while lifting and toting material. I do plan on buyin a J-frame revolver that will be easier to conceal and weigh less.
I dont think the boss will say anything bout carrying at work. Since he occasionally has a gun his truck. Also his brother keeps a loaded Glock 22 40cal and 3 extra mags in his truck(registered in company name) all the time. His dad came to the store the other day(another company truck), when I went to put something in the back seat, there was a double barrel shotgun layin on it. But they do keep the trucks locked when they are unattended and have guns inside.

Ive seen the time when I would have felt more comfortable with a gun on my side while on job sites. Most of the times I can tell when a dog doesnt want ya around. Back in the spring I went to a new construction job that had a few dogs. They did the typical barking at the truck and stuff, so I gave a minute and let em cool off b4 I started unloading. The truck I drive has a forklift on the back, so I drove the lift from the truck past the house to the house they were building about 4 or 5 times and the dogs never barked at me or anything. The last trip down the hill I stopped at the house on the way back out b/c the order was a COD. I cut the lift off about 15ft from the porch. When I stepped off the lift and started towards the steps I was greeted by 3 dogs barking, growling and showin plenty of teeth. I stopped, and backed up(yelled some words I cant repeat on here). I ended up backin into the forklift leaving a good bruise on my back for a few days. I never turned my back on the dogs tho. By the time I got back on the lift the guys son had come out and got the dogs to stop. He took the bill and got me a check. I told my boss when I got back, if I went there again and it was COD, if no one came outside, he would not be getting a check. That was the first time I had ever actually been scared of a dog, and it wasnt a good feeling.
The boss' brother had an encounter with a dog b4 too. He got to the job, unaware of the dog being loose. He gets away from the truck, here comes the dog around the house. He managed to get on top of some stuff where the dog couldnt reach him until the homeowner came out and ran the dog back inside.
Id hate to shoot someones dog on their own property. But if he gets a hold of me it wouldnt be a tough decision to make. About 95% of the time when we make a delivery the people know we are coming, and dogs should not even be near us.

Thanks again, Sorry to be so long.

Matt

DZL HOG, a gun would not have been a good first step in the situation you are describing, but a 2oz can of FOX LABS pepper spray would be your best bet (or buy Bear Spray same thing just more of it). Now, if that doesn't work go for your pistol or gun, at that point when the police show up (and they will) you can show a logical continuum of force.

I have seen pepper spray work wonders on the attitude of several dogs as to whether particular people should be menaced.
