SB334's requirement that anybody with a gun is prohibited from drinking and could be charged with a misdemeanor is "absurd," Jacocks said, and can't be enforced.

They're out to lunch. If it's concealed, what's the problem? That's currently the law in Georgia and we don't have a problem with gun crazies in places that sell alcohol.

Actually I would vote yes on such a law provided it was applied across the board and not simply to concealed carry.

Can you clarify what you mean?

Do you realize that Virginia ALREADY allows OPEN-CARRY in alcohol establishments?
It is ONLY the CCW-folks who have been getting shafted by the prohibition.

This soon-to-be law will solve that.

It sounds like you have some sort of objection.
Can you clarify?

Yes. There are two laws involved. The CCW law prohibits CCW in establishments that sell liquor. The much older open carry law has no such prohibition. For years, Virginians have simply been taking off their jackets when going into restaurants which serve alcohol, converting from CCW to open carry while in the restaurant.
It is ONLY the CCW-folks who have been getting shafted by the prohibition.
Yep -- and a stupid prohibition it is.

Simple, only a fool would put firearms and alcohol together. BATF is a prime example.
(Sorry, couldn't resist. )

If the concern was alcohol fueled 'shootouts' firearms themselves would not be allowed. The fact that they target only conceal carry tells me the agenda is not public safety but some stupid political message. Political messages should not have the force of law.

Being from Virginia I can remember when we had the same kind of scare tactics about serving "liquor by the drink" in restaurants, and how the streets would be full of staggering drunks. Funny it didn't turn out that way.....

Somewhat related issue: Went to the library today, and there were folk out front getting signatures on a petition for a guy who wants to run for Congress. I asked "who is he?" The answer: "a conservative Republican." I asked if he was pro-gun or anti-gun. They said "Pro! Easy question!" So I signed the petition.

Now I wish I could remember the guy's name.....
