Apparently I married a good one!
Originally she wanted to buy me the Magpul Hunter stock I’ve been wanting for my Ruger American Predator, but it hasn’t been released yet.
She then tuned in to my gun rambling and figured out I was lusting after a different Bergara, the HMR. But, alas, after much digging she couldn’t locate one in 6.5 Creedmoor anywhere.
But she did find a BMP. And a big black and yellow box was waiting on the couch when I got in from work around 2 this morning!
The BMP is built on their B14 action, which is essentially what a production 700 should be. Coned bolt nose, plunger ejector and Sako style extractor with a side bolt release. It cycles very smoothly and of course comes with a nice aluminum oversized knob. The action is fitted with a 24 inch threaded bergara #6 contour barrel featuring a “remage” type barre nut. It also features bergaras own trigger, which I’ll talk more about in a bit. The barreled action is then dropped into bergaras own very well designed chassis. It’s stock is fully adjustable and can be swapped to a buffer tube to accept AR stocks. It does not fold, but supposedly bergara is working on an accessory folding adaptor.
The forend, main chassis, and stock system are all separate pieces which I assume could be interchanged though I’m not sure with what. It of course accepts AICS mags and ships with a 5rd Magpul.
After striping the rifle down and inspecting, cleaning and lubricating everything, I am impressed. I think this rifle is very well built for the price point. It isn’t on the same level as a custom, but it doesn’t cost the same either!
Now about that trigger. This will be the first thing to be changed out. Don’t get me wrong, it’s very good for a factory trigger. Exceptionally clean and crisp. But it’s a bit heavy for my taste (guesstimating 3 lbs on lowest adjustment) and does have a bit of overtravel.
The only scope I currently have is a Leupold VX III 3.5-10x50 which I mounted up in Warne steel. Not exactly a perfect match, but it will serve for barrel break in and load development over the summer until I can fund something more appropriate.
Over all I’m absolutely tickled pink. I’ve always wanted a “precision” rifle, but have never owned one. I’ve never owned much other than relatively low end sporting rifles. This thing is still an entry level piece in its field, but it means a lot to me already, especially being a gift from my beloved. I plan to slowly get it set up to begin learning longer range shooting, but will be working at my 200 yd local range on loads and such for the time being.
I’ll let you guys know how It groups once I get it to the range! There isn’t a lot of info out there on these things at the moment so I’d be happy to answer any questions.
