Apparently I married a good one!

Originally she wanted to buy me the Magpul Hunter stock I’ve been wanting for my Ruger American Predator, but it hasn’t been released yet.

She then tuned in to my gun rambling and figured out I was lusting after a different Bergara, the HMR. But, alas, after much digging she couldn’t locate one in 6.5 Creedmoor anywhere.

But she did find a BMP. And a big black and yellow box was waiting on the couch when I got in from work around 2 this morning!

The BMP is built on their B14 action, which is essentially what a production 700 should be. Coned bolt nose, plunger ejector and Sako style extractor with a side bolt release. It cycles very smoothly and of course comes with a nice aluminum oversized knob. The action is fitted with a 24 inch threaded bergara #6 contour barrel featuring a “remage” type barre nut. It also features bergaras own trigger, which I’ll talk more about in a bit. The barreled action is then dropped into bergaras own very well designed chassis. It’s stock is fully adjustable and can be swapped to a buffer tube to accept AR stocks. It does not fold, but supposedly bergara is working on an accessory folding adaptor.

The forend, main chassis, and stock system are all separate pieces which I assume could be interchanged though I’m not sure with what. It of course accepts AICS mags and ships with a 5rd Magpul.

After striping the rifle down and inspecting, cleaning and lubricating everything, I am impressed. I think this rifle is very well built for the price point. It isn’t on the same level as a custom, but it doesn’t cost the same either!

Now about that trigger. This will be the first thing to be changed out. Don’t get me wrong, it’s very good for a factory trigger. Exceptionally clean and crisp. But it’s a bit heavy for my taste (guesstimating 3 lbs on lowest adjustment) and does have a bit of overtravel.

The only scope I currently have is a Leupold VX III 3.5-10x50 which I mounted up in Warne steel. Not exactly a perfect match, but it will serve for barrel break in and load development over the summer until I can fund something more appropriate.

Over all I’m absolutely tickled pink. I’ve always wanted a “precision” rifle, but have never owned one. I’ve never owned much other than relatively low end sporting rifles. This thing is still an entry level piece in its field, but it means a lot to me already, especially being a gift from my beloved. I plan to slowly get it set up to begin learning longer range shooting, but will be working at my 200 yd local range on loads and such for the time being.

I’ll let you guys know how It groups once I get it to the range! There isn’t a lot of info out there on these things at the moment so I’d be happy to answer any questions.

That looks like a very nice rifle. I have never heard of that brand but judging by the design it must be very accurate. I have always wanted a precision rifle too but they are out of my price range. Congratulations, that's a nicer gift than I have ever received from a woman.

Congratulations, that is a beaut! My gf bought me a KitchenAid mixer...hmm. Anyway, I’d bet for 200 yards that Leupold will serve you well till you can stretch the legs further and from what I’ve read you’ve definitely got a shooter.

Wow, I won't even get a card. That is a nice rifle!

I bought myself a Lincoln TIG welder today as a Valentine's gift to myself and will have to drop $150+ on dinner with the gf next Wednesday. I hope I still have the TIG welder next year! :D

@swampcrawler .... nice rifle! Those Bergara folks know what they're doing. I've shot quite a few of their rifles and really like them. I'm expecting good things from BPI over the next few years. I have three CVA muzzle loaders that are outstanding products and I bought my gf a Quake sling last year which she really likes on her Montana. CVA and Quake are both owned by BPI.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I put about 60 rounds of factory ammo through it yesterday averaging about 1.1 inches at 100 for 5 shot groups.

Considering that I was doing their recomended break in procedure and cleaning every 10 rounds and all I don’t think that’s horrible. A properly fouled barrel and good hand loads should produce some fine ground.

All I can say is Wow!, what an awesome wife you have! And if this is what she get's you for Valentine's Day, I can only imagine what you might receive for your birthday and Christmas presents!

That is nice! I'm eyeing Bergara. Agree with you completely that they are building what a Remington 700 should be. I'm really tempted by the B-14 HMR in 6mm Creedmoor ...
