So for Valentines day my newlywedded (as of 2/12) wife and I stopped by Coal Creek Armory in Knoxville, TN on our way back from the Smokie mountians. My baby had only shot my Beretta 950 .22 short, a 20 gauge, and my .357 w/ .357 & .38's. Well we rented an XD9, a SIG 228, a GLOCK 19, a Para-Ord LDA, and a Kimber ...TLE I believe.
The XD9 shot well though we had two stovepipes when she was shooting, I believe she was limp wristing. The trigger didn't bite and was very easy to manage.
The SIG 228 in 9mm was enjoyable to shoot. Had a double feed which I cleared immediatley and there were no further problems.
The GLOCK 19 didn't fit either of us especially well, the trigger bit, and according to my wife, the sights were "unnatural." That said, it still shot fine and ran good groups. No FTF or FTE. I shot it sideways and upsidedown with no problems (just to see what it would do) once while turning it sideways it fired before I was ready (I fired a round and turned my hand over to fire a second, finger inside the trigger guard). That frightened me a bit. Guess I should have kept my finger on the rail like I am supposed to. Still I was shocked at how easy it was to AD a GLOCK since it lacks the gripsaftey of the XD or the longer DA first pull of the SIG.
We shot the Para LDA .45 acp last but I will deal with it before I speak of the Kimber.
The Para sucked. When racking the slide I had to rack it forward harder than I did backward. It just didn't want to snap forward like a good little gun. The magazine was GOD AWEFUL! I had to slap it on the butt and pound it down every other shot. All FTL (fail to load) were due to the mag. The sights were nice, the trigger felt pointless. It was too mushy for a DAO and way to long. The XD has a much better trigger IMHO.
And then we shot the Kimber 1911. My wife loved it. I, of course am a 1911 fan but I wanted her to choose her on pistol without my influence. I put the first mag in and drilled out the X ring at 15 yards. My wife also shot best with the full sized 1911. No FTF or FTE, even upsidedown/ sideways. Niether I or my wife could tell a substantial difference in recoil managibility with the .45 vs the 9mm's. More of a "push" with the .45 but quite easy to handle. I tell you it was pretty hot watching my wife shoot double taps with a 1911.
She wants to get matching guns, probably Mil-Specs since we are poor. I wonder if there is a couples class for competition?~Nathan

The range on Valentines Day! How *sniff, sniff* romantic. I shoulda thought of that one (actually, I believe that we did do that 2-3 yrs ago). I know there is probably a redneck joke in the works over that idea.:D

Sounds like a good ole' time was had by all~!

Very surprised that you experienced a problem with these weapons,
and in particular the SIG P228.:uhoh: Usually, rental guns aren't
kept up like someone's personal weapon would be; by I always
thought that Coal Creek Armory was a cut above the "also rans".
I have a 1990 model West German SIG-SAUER P228 that doesn't
hiicup on anything that I throw at it~!:D But all in all, I'm glad
you all had fun, and please accept my congratulations on the
marriage. After all, my wife hails from Seveirville, Tennessee
and noticed my signature line.:)

SIG 228

The double feed may have been her fault. I think she half racked the slide then racked it fully. She has wrist issues so racking the slide isn't easy for her. As soon as I saw too much brass shining at me in the the action I requested the gun, dropped out the mag, cycled the slide twice to make sure all bullets were ejected and it ran fine.
All ammo used was American Federal FMJ each gun took 50 rounds.~Nathan

sounds like a nice fun romantic holiday...glad you guys had fun and try and save the extra money to pick up matching kimbers....youll both be happier it sounds like
