I have the opportunity to get a Valley Arms Bobcat in .50 cal for $100. I'm considering it, but I know nothing about black powder firearms, or this particular gun.

What can you tell me about it? Is it worth getting?

I got one for the same price. Look at the bore, but you get a lot of gun for the $$. Not a fan of the plastic stock but I,m gonna swap to a wood stock.

yep, check the bore out GOOD. If theres rust or pitting, stay away from it. Check around the nipple as well, if theres rust around it, ask if you can remove the nipple to inspect the threads.

The bobcat is a great little gun, they can be a kicking mule once you boost the charge up and switch to a heavy conical, but a slip on recoil pad works great.

100$ bp rifle

blk powder shooting is GREAT! 100 is a good price if its good shape.i love black powder shooting,i got a great deal on a bp rifle and on a blk powder shotgun too.theyre cool to. dude, you can get 200 accurate yards out of a .50 with a good powder load and the right bullets.
And up close, nothing beats a .50 caliber heavy bullet for deer/hog.

I would say YES! get it.its a whole new world of shooting!

Good starter gun. You can start making your own accoutrements for it and if you get deeper into black powder, either make your own stock or buy another rifle. Start inexpensively and take it from there.
