Value of an older Taurus 82

I have been offered an older Taurus 82. It looks like a copy of a Model 10 Smith, down to the grips.

I know it's an older one because the present owner got it some 15 years ago if not more, and it wasn't new then. It's in pretty decent shape.

I am of the opinion that one cannot have too many .38 revolvers, so I thought I'd grab it, but I was asked to make an offer and I am not sure what they go for. I see newer ones on Gunbroker, but they are different.

Any ideas?

I like the older ones, they look more like the classic smith than the new ones (for that matter, the new smiths do not look like the classic smiths either). They generally retailed less than comparable smiths, and right now you can find a decent model 10 for $250ish where I am at.

btw, the grips will not interchange.

Being that decent Model 10s can be had for around $250 like ktd states, I wouldn't pay more than $200 for the Taurus 82, assuming that it is good working condition and has a decent finish. Be sure to use Jim March's revolver checkout procedure at the top of this forum.

I saw what I'm pretty sure I recall as being a Taurus 82 in not so good condition (their was some end and side shake and the finish was very worn, with some dings in the side plate that were showing rust) that was going for $159 in my area about 6 months ago.

Personally, I haven't seen one that I would invest over 80 bucks in~

FWIW, sometimes security company's will sell off their Taurus
model 82's for somewhere between $75-100. Check with the
nearest Wackenhut office in your area for further details.
