Varmint rifles and their victims

Thanks for the advise. I would never ask for someones "secret spot". I just was looking to see how to get out there and hunt.

Not many pictures of my hunting results, but here's one:

My old Weatherby Mark V, '06, 26" barrel. Federal Premium High Energy, 165-grain Sierra HPBT at 3,150.

Wily was only maybe forty or so yards away, and I held a tad lower than I should have--but I sorta hurried the shot since he was just starting to run. :)

Top bolt rifle is a 308 shooting 175smk
Ar is rocking 140 amax
Bottom bolt is a 7mm rem mag I think that dog was shot with some factory 150silvertips

Chaser...Using BIG calibers on small caliber varmints is a blast. (no pun intended) This is just what I was looking for. keep'm coming.

Ruger 1V in .223 vs. ground squirrel.

Admittedly, I have not pulled a trigger on something alive for over thirty years. I used to haunt those loooooonnng green hollers in Wv with a vengeance. Putnam County to Pocahontas County.
Remington 700 action 22-250
Douglas barrel 1" bull
Fajen stock
Loves 53 gr Sierra HPBT with 3031.

My newest Tikka T3 .204 Ruger. Ruger 10/22. Marlin 917vs .17hmr

The Marlin seems to have bloodlust for gophers. She rarely seems to miss 'em.

And one dead gopher.

My favorite varmint rifle is still my Remington 700 in 22 CHeetah. It is wearing an older Weaver T-10 and has taken a large number of coyotes in it's history. I shoot a Barnes 55 grain TTSX-BT at 4200 fps, this load absolutely explodes inside a coyote.

I just bought a Mossberg MVP and am starting to work up a load for it with the same bullet. It should make a great groundhog rifle when I get everything dialed in.

I love watching those ground squirrels fly in the air after getting hit. It makes me laugh
Sometimes we have a competition called "Maximum displacement between major body parts." One day I won with this rifle with 12 long paces between the head and the tail. Full disclosure: It was windy so it may have been a slightly wind-aided score ;)

451 Detonics, the wood on that 700 is gorgeous!!!

Needless to say that isn't factory wood, that was stocked by Mike Cross, he actually apologized for the "plain" wood he put on that rifle...

Here is what a 50 grain Sierra Blitzking coming out of a .22-250 at ~3800 FPS does to a groundhog at ~120 yards.

This is a 7-8 pound groundhog. Small for my area (I've shot ones over 20lb) but certainly much bigger than a prairie dog or ground squirrel. I've seen at least 20 groundhogs killed with birdshot from shotguns at close rage, .223 Rem using 55 grain game kings, .225 WIN using 52gr. Match king...I have never seen one blow up like this.

I photographed the groundhog where he was lying when I got to him...notice the blood smear above the objective scope cap though...the muzzle of the gun is actually pointing in the direction I was sitting though...about 120 yards away.

gonna attach an image as well...I've had deer pictures tagged by PETA wannabes and deleted from that image hosting site before

50 grain Sierra Blitzkings strike again. Shot this one yesterday. It was a little bigger than the last one, maybe 9 or 10 pounds...it was right up the creek from the last one too...maybe 40-50 yards farther so about 160-170 yards from my shooting position. It wasn't quite as messy this time, but still much more messy than I have seen from the 55 grain game kings my dad is shooting out of his .223.

BTW the rifle is a .22-250 CZ 550 Varmint Laminated Stock with a Bushnell 4200 Elite Tactical 6-24X50 scope

I'm not big into varmint specific rifles. Mostly I shoot pests with whatever I have. I would like to go prairie dogging though. Maybe next year. Anyway here's some pics of... non-conventional varmint rifles:

Shotguns:

Shotgun on the left, Marlin 1894 in 45 Colt on the right. I didn't shoot that dog but I called it in. Both firearms pictured see their share of coyote stands:

The 45-70 sees action. Only busted one with it. I want to do it again:

My most conventional is a M70 in 243, all purpose rig:

This is one that I got last week at about 175 yard. I'm using v-max's and I'm not really getting the terminal performance I was hoping for. The animals don't get away but I do like to see bigger holes. 2012-06-23_19-10-03_419.jpg

What caliber are you using? I would think the V-Max would perform about like my Blitzking are performing..but my pills are coming out at 3700-3800FPS.

I've shot 3 with my dad's .223 with 55 grain Sierra Gameking. One in the head at 150 yards...small entry wound....huge exit wound. I shot one in the chest at 200 yards and it put a quarter sized entry hole into it.

So far I have only shot 2 with my .22-250 and you can see the results above, one has no head at all, the other has the "canoe" effect where it looks like a xenomorph from Aliens popped out of his head.
