They were banned last week on June 20th. It's slim pickings now and prices have began rising just like when the Saiga ban happened. I've got 2 Veprs (a Vepr 12 and an unconverted type 2 sight 7.62x39 16 in. barrel), so I'm good. Just keeping an eye out for any factory mags at good prices on the 12.

this kind of stuff is so stupid. Do they really think a ban on Veprs is going to put any real economic pressure on russia?

Never even seen one up close. but the AK style shotgun looked pretty nifty to me and had mostly good reviews, for whatever that is worth.

And the prices run up to the point where no one wants to buy one anymore, effectively ending sell options for the owner. Been there and done that....no tee-shirt.

I used to do a lot of shooting with AKs. Had nearly 4k rounds through a AK74 Tantal before I mistakenly traded it off. Never felt the need to have gloves nor did I ever cut/burn myself on it.

Yea...explain that to me.

Do you think if the product was say, solar panels or wind turbines, they would ban them? What about a cure for cancer drug?

If the answer is no, then the bans intent isn't to put economic pressure of Russia.

From what I had understood, the Molot VEPR rifles were pretty much the cream of the crop of ~$1000 AKs. Since they're out of the picture, who's next to claim that title?

I used to enjoy shooting my 308 Vepr. I did a unique conversion back then when Robarms parts could be had. As far as semi auto 308 20" they are reasonably light, accurate and all that.
I have a Saiga 308 now and I like it.
For 308 though I like my MP10.
I also really like the Arsenal SLR107

I don't use gloves myself, but I certainly understand the thinking. If you aren't familiar with the design it is easy to cut or burn yourself. If you are reaching under to rack the charging handle with your left/support hand you need to use your index finger because using your thumb gets your palm cut up on the safety.

I had a VEPR AK for a while, it was an OK weapon as far as AK's go. There are so much better options out there for the shooters in the US.

I've shot and seen many other shoot an AK and none of them ever required gloves. Even when firing my Vepr chambered in 308, I've never needed gloves nor did my hands hurt or have any discomfort. If you watch any video of prolonged and/or rapid fire, you'd see that the same laws of physics that apply to the AK also apply to the AR. The barrel and handguards will get hot. In that case, as is the case with most platforms, protection from the heat will be needed if you want to grip the bare handgaurd.

No real big loss in my opinion. I've had a few Vepr's (.308, 7.62x54r, x39) and they were decent enough, but nothing amazing. Heavy too. Then again, I dont like rifles that require safety gloves to shoot/handle.
I agree, the 7.62X54R is an impressive looking AK style, but with no LRBHO, expensive HTF mags, and so-so accuracy, nothing
to write home about.

Trump's Treasury Department concluded that previously sanctioned Kalashnikov Concern now controls Molot so they have been added to the sanctions list.
