very disappointed with Winchester!

Well my new in the box 1300 saga is over....after having it sent back to Winchester for factory repair.....it came back to my Gunbroker dealer EXACTLY the same...the vent rib on the barrel cockeyed by about 4 degrees.

It's as if they didn't even look at it....it was so obvious to see! And it only took 14 weeks!

can you say LAME!!!!!!

I'm amazed that this once icon of American firearms has fallen to such a pathetic level of quality & service.

It appears that FN has no committment to the civilian market at all.....

My guess is that it is part and parcel of their "good European socialist" mentality.....only the government can be entrusted with such dangerous things as guns.

So I received a "full refund" of the purchase price....but am out the return shipping and FFL cost.

Fooled me once.......shame on you....

I'll be sure not to be fooled again.

That is awesome. now take 50 bucks of that and have your gunsmith reattach the vent rib. Nice profit.

Winchester is gone. They closed down their New Haven, CT plant and stopped production on all of the firearms they built. The SX2's, SX3's and their O/U's are made by Browning, but last I heard (from Winchester in a letter to dealers) they weren't going to renew Browning's lease on those guns.


Winchesters own page announcing the closing. They are still contracting guns out overseas, but only new stuff, none of their classic things.

If Browning does buy the rights to the guns, odds are they'll take them to Miroku, Japan to produce instead of Belgium. My understanding of the Belgium production was that it was part of the deal with Winchester to produce those guns.

They're made in Belgium by FN/Herstal Group. The letter on the Winchester site says they will continue to be made there.

the shotgun was returned...

to the Gunbroker dealer, who sent it back to a facility handling Winchester's RMA work. I got a refund of the origonal purchase price and shipping, but ate the return shipping and FFL fee.

I wanted to be "different" and have a 1300, and comparing the two side by side at the KTP used gun racks, I liked the way the 1300 felt better than the 870.

Live and learn....

Worse part of the story is that during the long period of time it took to achieve no good result, I sunk $800 in car repairs and had to use the money from the shotgun to pay the bill.

Oh well, maybe someday....but not today.

I have yet to see any official sources of Winchester manufacturing being based in China, and I'm not holding my breath either.

Perhaps because I know a few good smiths, I can't help but wonder if it would have been better to have the repairs done localy and have the seller refund those costs, instead of .. oh nevermind.

i have a couple win 1300 and i love em. i have half a dozen remington 870's but i dont like the way they handle as well as my 1300's. the first one i got ive put about 1500 rounds thru it w/ no problem. my new one ive put pbly 800 thru w/ no problem. i like that they come w/ 4 chokes, and you dont have to buy them seperatley like the 870. having said that, i do not like the way that they come loose after a hard day of shooting. i think maybe u just got some bad luck man, or else i got some really decent luck. who knows.

Ok, at the least thats a $300-500 gun and it sounds like you just got it free except for s&h... for that you could buy a new barrel... two even with the rib on em

Well you can vow never to buy another new Winchester firearm. Indeed I'll lay odds you will never buy another new Winchester firearm. Neither will anyone else. The real Winchester died in 1981. USRAC, the extension of a Belgian company, died last year. So that's that.
