Very frustrated with Sportsmans Warehouse

Some stores believe you will buy what you can get. Some people will.

When looking for a .260Rem, I went to every LGS and Big Box within 50 miles. None in stock. Several tried to sell what was in the shelf.
I started on phone, calling to check inventory at further and further stores.
Happened across the exact rifle on Armslist (before they went full ****). Drove the 3 hrs to get what I wanted.

Have made several purchases and trades that required a 3-4 drive. Cost effective? Probably not, but I found what I wanted, examined it closely, talked with the other party and made the deal (or in a couple instances, walked away)

Decide how bad you want it and decide accordingly.

It means you should buy a rifle you don't want from the store nearer to you so that the company doesn't have to bother shipping the one you DO want.

That's pretty normal policy at most big box stores, though this about the merchandise as a whole not just firearms or ammunition. They may have items in warehouse or available from distributors which can be ordered and shipped to various locations, but usually once it is delivered to a store it's their local inventory. Local inventory belongs to that location. If they did not operate this way, a few stores with big demand would pull all popular items away to themselves leaving other locations with bare shelves of in-demand goods. Sometimes you have to think bigger picture.

Thanks for the explanation. I can understand that. Unfortunately, the downside is irritated customers and money tied up in inventory that is gathering dust. This particular rifle is no longer listed on Savage’s website so it’s been at that store for a while.

All I can say is the economic crash of 2008 gave a lot of people a dose of what they deserve.

It also gave many of the people who were responsible for the economic crash a huge infusion of taxpayer cash that they did NOT deserve. But that was nothing compared to what's happening now. Grrrrr....
