So, last year i bought this other bolt gun in .223 Rem and tried for the last year to get it to group. Couldnt do it so i sold it. Had paid about $425 for this first one.

Fast forward to two weeks ago. Sold the other POS and bought a Savage Axis in .223 Rem with just a Bushnell Banner 3-9 X 40mm scope. Took it to an indoor 100 yrd range to sight it in.

Using Federal Blue Box (code 223A) .223 Rem 55 grain soft points and bench rested at 100 yards i got 3/4 inch SUB-MOA groups!!!!! For a rifle and scope package that costs $320 i am COMPLETELY impressed!!!

now, to be honest, im not sure i would buy an Axis that was in the .30 caliber or bigger cause of the stock and scope, but i think any of the vamint or smaller deer calibers (.243 etc.) would be great! So, two thumbs up for my new varmint rifle!

My Axis .223 is the same way. Way accurate for such a cheap rifle.

Adding a Timney and filling the stock to stiffen makes a world of difference.

Congrats! I've got an Axis in .243 win., and it's certainly a tack driver. The money is very well spent.

And I agree 100% with Temptest 455 on the modifications.

+1 on modifying the stock. i took some fiberglass resin and filled the spaces in the forearm to stiffen it and strengthen it. Man, i just love this rifle!!

i just poured in regular fiberglass resin that you can pick up at any hardware/automotive store. I layed down a first layer that nearly filled the little sections. i let that dry then i drilled two holes in each section then put another layer that came to just below the lowest part of the barrel. this seems to stiffen and strengthen the forearm quite a bit. just dont get the top level near the barrel channel. Best of luck!
