The antigunners are creating a mystique around AR's that could work to the benefit of those that might use them for self-defense. So, paradoxically, the antigunners are making AR's more useful and desirable. This parallels the unintended effect that every proposal to ban AR's has driven up sales. Without the antigunners' campaign against AR's, there would probably only be half as many in private hands.

They are very useful firearms to get the upper hand. What concerns me, is the number of ARs/AKs that the officers on television shows like "Live PD" are intercepting in the hands of bad guys.

With the cheap prices they are more prevalent. Willing to bet most are stolen. Some are bought for them by girlfriend/wife. And they are very good for home defense.

Yes, this is what I would call "the democratization of firepower." When something becomes this much of a commodity, it's inevitable that the bad guys as well as the good guys are going to get them. You can't put the genie back into the bottle. All that we can hope for is that more good guys than bad guys have them.

Unfortunately, he got away to kick in more doors. Hopefully, this was a wake up call to him that he should change his ways....and his underwear.

Darn it! Now there's two more Beto supporters on the loose.

Armed Dude needs to have a heart-to-heart with his roommate about outrunning the pointman, but it appears that Armed Dude exercised pretty good muzzle control anyway.

By comparison, how many handguns do they confiscate?

If that justifies a ban on one, it justifies a ban on all.

The odds are that nothing can penetrate his skull that's not going 3,000fps.

To be fair, though, do we know they would not have run had they been confronted with a handgun or shotgun instead? That's a question anyone debating an "anti-black-rifle" person and trying to use this as an example might be asked.

And a lot of people are turned around when a handgun, shotgun, probably even a crossbow is pointed at them.

^^ Exactly my point. The story does nothing to prove that anyone needs legal access to an AR-type for home defense, and that's what a debate opponent can use in their argument.

It certainly does nothing to DISPROVE it.

The ONLY reason to handicap the defender is to tilt the odds in favor of the predators... which in fact more than a lot of proponents of racially invidious gun controls would like to do. On MANY occasions I've seen them express FAR more sympathy for the assailants than for the victims.

The guy in the blue tee shirt is an idiot.
If he had gone down to "friendly fire" the whole situation would have become anti- gun material.

When it is required to prove a need before exercising a right, it isn't a right at all.

They had an AR, a camera watching everything, but a door that seemingly gave way pretty easily to a kick.

I think they need to start there, toughen up that door.

Most inner city people have never had any weapons training. Most of them don't even know how to shoulder a rifle properly. I doubt many of them could operate an AR if you handed them a rifle unloaded along with a magazine. I think most of the AR's and AK's they have are for maintaining weapons superiority over rival gangs, not for use in robbing the general public. You just don't see many of those weapons make their way into real crimes because long guns don't conceal well.

That got me too. The second man shouldn't have run in front of the gun and I couldn't really tell from this angle IF the barrel was lowered.

I think this is mostly reflective of the market. The guns we see recovered from criminals and crime scenes probably more or less reflect the guns that are legally owned, which makes sense, since theft and straw purchases from the legal supply chain and end users are the major sources of crime guns.

I thought it looked like an apartment.

I'm not in the business of doing home improvements for my landlord, especially buying doors and door jambs.

But are you in the business to better protect yourself?

People get overly hung up when something that might better themselves might also be beneficial to others.

Running the video in quarter speed, you can see that the muzzle is lowered. It still scans the legs of the roomie who ran in front of it. I don't think the AR15 guy was being particularly muzzle conscious about his roomie. He was already lowering the muzzle well before the roomie was anywhere close. Threat was gone and so rifle taken to low ready.

So the perps got away, and now they know the resident has firearms. Word gets out. I bet the cameras won't be the only things watching that building.
