Videogames for Dad

Bah! You guys are missing the obvious.

Ghost Recon for the PC - ROCKS! I highly recommend it.

Don't know if he's much of a star wars fan but Jedi Knight II rocks too. You get the lightsaber as well as a variety of nifty imperial toasting weapons. You can set the game to show dismemberments with the lightsabers too, very nice touch...

All of the other 3D Shooter and tactical games blow chunks though IMHO. Operation Flashpoint, Battlefield, Hitman, etc. They all have something missing whether it be good graphics, realistic AI, common sense gameplay, etc.

PS2 games - Unreal Tournament is pretty good. Its Doom on crack.

SOCOM is ok too, pretty hard though.

Metal Gear Solid I & II and all of the expansions rock.

If you want some simple fun, the older Syphon Filter games for the PS1 ALL kick butt too. Lots of fun weapons and great gameplay and storyline.

My friend at work has Splinter Cell and said it kicks butt. I haven't seen it but he's a reliable source. I'll have to check that out for the PS2.

And, the pinnacle of violent destruction fests...

GTA Vice City! Haven't found anything more fun than that game yet. Endless amusement even after the game is completed. You can still roam around, buy machineguns, and destroy things and shoot people. What a great way to relieve aggresion in a harmless manner.

Choose wisely!

I forgot...

Owen said to remind everyone that in Vice City you're shooting INNOCENT people for the most part. Or at least you can when you're not shooting people who deserve it...

Ghost recon has add-on packs?

KIM this is the Ps2 version.

I already asked on videogame boards but those guys wouldn't know the difference between an m4 and a keyblade so I was looking for a more informed group, and this is certainly a higher age group.

Well, there you go. I don't play consoles. My preferred game type is FPS, which the console doesn't do too well.

Ghost Recon for the PC has 2 official add-ons, as well as numerous 3rd party stuff. Lack of downloadable mods is one more reason I don't play console games.

I already have probably over 100 hours in Vice City:eek: :D Pop won't play it because of the context (you are a murdering drug dealer etc...)

Bah!

What's wrong with being a murdering drug dealer? Oh well, generation gap I guess. My uncle who I've always respected as a wise role model who loves guns doesn't like GTAVC either.

Has he seen the back room at the Pole Position? That might change his mind.

If not, the Syphon Filter Trilogy may be just the ticket. I still pop SF3 in the PS2 every now and then because it's such a good game. The context is much more upstanding, the lone wolf against the evil empire. You'll probably be able to buy all three for under $50 if you look around.

I love the MOH games especially on PS 2. Dad should really like it. It will be a while before he develops the "button pushing" skills he'll need to beat the game. The intensity and realism will keep him playing it. 1st person shooters are all I play, that and driving games. Have Fun !!
