Much discussion about powders centers on their cleanliness. Not only do most of us dislike cleaning guns, but crudding up a gun makes it function worse.
There's rarely consensus, but one that might be true for pistol powders is that Vihta Vuori is pretty much the cleanest. I know I've pretty much settled on that as true. For revolver shooting, especially mid-bore stuff (.38 Special), I really don't care to use anything other than VV.
I submit as some sort of proof this picture of a patch.
Last weekend, I ran my King Cobra in a smaller IDPA match using my standard load of 4.8gr VV 320 and a Berry's 158gr round-nose plated. I fired about 60 rounds or so in the main match. Several cardboards were injured.
Here's a patch that was soaked in a CLP (FP-10) and worked through all six chambers a half-dozen times apiece, and then twice through the bore. The same patch.
Had the load been my other favorite, WST, it would have been completely black long before it even got to the barrel. Here, it's barely dingy.
Since converting to VV for the sixguns, I don't even recall where my range bag's chamber brush is.

Yeah, maybe around $5/pound more, but divide that up by 1000 or 2000, depending on what sort of charge you're using, and you're looking at around 1/4 to 1/2 cent more per round. Personally, I think that's a decent trade-off for burning as clean, and metering as well as VV powders do.

As black noted, Powder is the least expensive component used in reloading and other than lead bullets has the largest effect on how dirty your firearm gets. A pound of VV310 will load 2258 rounds (with my idpa load). Think of it like paying someone $.0022 per round to clean for you.

I use VV powders for all my match shooting. In the past i burned a lot of 4895 in my M1A, but since switching to VV N135, I find I can shoot a lot more without fouling problems and it's much easier to clean the gas system.

Trouble in Finland.

Don´t buy VihtaVuori Worlds best powder because we here in Finland have troubles to find it. VihtaVuori can´t to produce enough for you and us.

I use 3N37 in 38 Super, switched from Accurate #7. No more cleaning the soot out of the bore.
I use N110 in 22 Hornet, very clean and consistent.

Vihta powders are expensive, but worth it.

Mr Cherryriver. God thinking. But I like more N-320. You use Titegroup and leave N-320 for me, please. I keep loading for my self 14 calipers and two more to my friends. Don´t use any VihtaVuori powder, I beg You, please. If You must, take only 24N41 or 20N29 because my friend and I we haven´t .50 BMG-guns. My reason: The nasty wife. Kauko.
