Just standing there. No doubt out for a bit of fresh city air on a street corner, at 2:35 in the AM. I'm sure he didn't have any ties to other statute-prohibited activity.

I'll bet a lot of people were "just standing" behind booze-laden Model A trucks in 1920's Chicago when they were suddenly mowed down in an entirely random act of violence.

Perhaps I'm old fashioned and out of touch, but do any of you old enough to remember, recall anything like this happening during the dark period in America when we had the pledge of alliegence and prayers in school, and we could discipline our children?

I mean, before all the liberals "enlightend" us, you know, the dark ages.

Actually a number of illegal guns seized in Chicago come from three suburban gun shops. The majority trace back to a hand full of dealers south of the Mason Dixon line.

In order to stop the flow of illegal weapons into Chi town from the south King Daley of Chicago has ordered the Governor to work on passing legislation banning most everything.

You've hit on something here. I would be willing to bet the majority of these murders were gangsters or druggies killing off other gangsters or druggies. Factor those out and include only humans ... (whistle) and the murder rate would not be nearly so bad.

Even though I live in the same state there are major differences. We do not even talk the same dialect as those people.

Interesting to think that the weather plays a role in criminal activity.

I could see how it could play out though, durring cold weather the dealers/ gangbangers are inside and not out marking their territory. Come warm weather the dealers gangs go back outside only to find other dealers/ gangs moving in on what they think is their turf..... they start shooting each other with results in revenge shootings......the usual gang BS. :banghead:

Well not to be too harsh but most of that violence can be lumped under Darwinism.

That's a roger. It's all you ever read in the papers. "Little 17 year old Fauntleroy was just standing on the street/sitting on the porch with friends at [insert wee early morning hour here] when some unidentified men pulled up and shot at them/beat them." I'm all for standing or sitting wherever you like at whatever hour you choose, don't get me wrong. But it would be a crock to say that anything but a miniscule number of these situations are "random" or unprovoked. Not to blame the victim, but even if you are minding your own [morally licit] business, what are you smoking, standing on a corner in Chicago at 3 AM? Even the cops avoid those neighborhoods like the plague, despite their body armor and vehicles.

You got it, everybody remember VPC's "stats" on kids killed with firearms? wasn't it later revealed 60% of those kids were between the ages of 19-21 and gangbangers?

big45: you took the words off my post."culture" during the depresion of the 1930s men toured the country looking for odd jobs and sent money back to their familys.crime was low "check it out".I lived in that period. my mother sold apples from my grandmothers farm.more 3rd world implants make more crime.an more welfare makes more dependants.many in poverty dont commit crime.

My grandfather arrived on the scene hopping off a freight train looking for work. My wife's great grandparents were a known spot to get a meal and a place to sleep for hobos. Sure they had their creeps back then but for the most part these placeless men were accepted as decent human beings.

I wish Chicago starts portraying these 'casualties' for what they area instead of trying to convince everyone jack and jill were going up the hill and got hit by a driveby cadillac. This is war and the soldiers are gang members. As in all wars there are 'civilian' casualties but I do not believe they make up the larger numbers.

Whatever happened to the idea of like the Guardian Angels? For a while they did good for their neighborhoods with their patrols and citizen awareness.
