COAL Measurements...

I have read a lot of other posts about the COAL measurements and also followed what Smokey Joe recommended I try, and I came up with some pretty consistent measurements. I fooled with the different lengths and found that no matter how I length my loads when making them for my M1917 30.06, If my COAL is longer than my rifle's measured distance to the lands, the bullets slide right into the case and lengthen themselves to the proper length for me, when chambered in my rifle. I guess that shows how tight this barrel is. So, I just set the length to a few thousandths of an inch longer than my measured length COAL of 3.254" and my rifle seems to really like that combo. It seems I am shooting .97" or less, 5 shot groups at 100 yards very consistently. I am even able to hit at 6" square on a regular basis now at 300 yards. :D

I have not really tried with my .243Win. yet, to play with the COAL that is, so I do not know how it will measure up. I just this past weekend full length sized all of my .243 brass, since it was shot first out of my Rossi and wouldn't fit my Weatherby. Now I get to fire form it all to the Weatherby. I am so excited about that too. I have 40 cartridges made up for this weekend and will be playing with it some then too. Then once I get the cartridges tailored the way I want them, I can make up the remaining 200 rounds and have them for whatever comes up. I am already making up 200+ 30.06 for my M1917 too. I think I will have enough for a while anyway. ;)

Mikey!
