A Virginia state trooper was shot and wounded and the suspected shooter was shot to death after officers went into a house to arrest a man accused of plotting to poison water supplies.

Phil Mann, chief division counsel with the Norfolk FBI office, said the trooper was shot in the arm and was in good condition. Virginia State Police did not release the trooper's name.

Mann said a shootout erupted as officers were attempting to arrest Ipolito "Polo" Campos at his home on Virginia's eastern shore last night.

He said another occupant of the house shot and wounded the trooper, and authorities returned fire, killing the shooter.

Campos was taken into custody. Mann would not identify the person who was killed or give any other details.

Charges were filed against Campos earlier yesterday in federal court. They included accusations of using phony immigration documents and a false Social Security number.

An unidentified person had contacted the Accomack County Sheriff's Department and said Campos was connected to a plot to poison Virginia's waters, according to federal court records.

Mann said the reported threat was being investigated by the region's Joint Terrorism Task Force, but added that no credible evidence exists that any plan was in place to carry out such an attack.

Again a case of INS failure. A good shoot on the officer's part, he fired through the wall with his shotgun after recieving several hits from buckshot coming the other way through the wall. The men in the trailer were illegals, shouldn't have been here. INS injures another American through its ineptitude.

The unidentified tip deal is the scary part, that is what justified to the police the high risk warrant service. I don't mind legit tips, but maybe we should only take them from people willing to give their name.

I see no mention of a Spanish language officer shouting "State police, search warrant open up!" If there was not we may well have to believe the illegals side that they thought it was their neighbors breaking in.
