My letter to the editor

In reference to the cartoon posted by Jim McCloskey on 05 Dec 07:

I pretty impressed that a news organization would allow such a vulgar and insulting cartoon to be published. This parallels the 1940s and 50s cartoons depicting all Asians (such as myself) as eyeglass wearing and buck tooth.
Since I support the 2nd amendment right, which I and the majority of the people have read, are you indicating that I am an uneducated ignorant bigot? This is sure what this cartoon implies (a picture is worth a thousand words). I thought the "News Leader" supported responsible reporting...?

Continue watching the thread. McKloskey is already engaged in obvious doubletalk, and making statements that don't hold water. Hopefully, he'll demonstrate this further (hopefully with a little help) so that his readers and editors can better get to know the man.

This cartoon is on the level of something from Der Sturmer. There was no argument presented in the cartoon. It was simple mockery of gun owners. Flood this SOB's workplace with letters of complaint and let's make sure he understands how many of us there are!

No Response

Hello,
I sent them a note, more query than complaint. I actually wanted a response. I noted that while yahoos may exist such as that depicted in the cartoon, I've never met one in the NRA. No response.
I actually buy their paper, but won't again until they become more responsible. I'm not sure how I'll know when that has happened since I won't be buying their paper!

This isn't the first time that he's run highly offensive cartoons aimed at groups of people he doesn't like. His cartoons are published here in the Roanoke Times (yes, the one infamous for outing all CCW holders in Virginia). He's targeted Christians so many times I can't even count.

Reply to Staton paper

I have tried a number of time to leave this message on the papers web site nd it has rejected them everytime. Is the site still working or did the outrage shut it down? I buy at the local gun shop in Stanton, funny though never met Bubba there.

This is what I am trying to post:
Concerning your publishing of the NRA cartoon by McCloskey, insulting:fire: and bigoted:fire: comes to mind. I am so glad that we have such masterminds producing our local newspaper. What a great country we live in where it is still within in the rights granted by the first amendment to the constitution to stereo type one last group of people, the white male. Does offending the few readers you have left improve circulation? We all know that attacking any other race or gender would not be P.C. so it is good to see that the Stanton paper is so closely following the rules of etiquette. I will also point out to my environmentalist friends in Charlottesville that you needlessly kill thousands of trees when greener methods of purveying your opinions are available. Thank you for your time.
