'Tween swamp and sun!
I came into a Volunteer Commando Mark III recently and with a little cleaning and care, it's been a fun shooter.

I know they're nowhere NEAR like an Auto-Ordinance but, I didn't pay anywhere NEAR that price either! :D

This ol' girl has been around, but there are a few things that make me wonder a few things about it. First, it's a low serial number, like four digits. Secondly, it doesn't have a patent number (I know one was issued later on), it just says "Patent Pending".

I've done some research both here and abroad and haven't been able to find out much more about these guns so far as when mine might have been produced. I know that they were produced as Commandos between '69 and '77 and I believe the patent number began showing up somewhere around '72 or '73.

This website has been quite informative http://www.freewebs.com/grungebag/commandomarkiii.htm

It's a neat Tommy-gun wanna-be and it shoots pretty good and I've had almost EVERYONE take me up on my offer to shoot it at the range. I'm not really interested in discussing quality, or the fact that some might not want it near their gun safe. That's okay, I like it. In fact, I think I'll take it out to the range tomorrow!

I'll try to get a photo up tomorrow.
