Volunteering to assist with C&R FFL rules lookup.

I finally got all my C&R handbooks and regulation binders organized. If anybody here is interested or wants to be come a C&R FFL holder (which I highly recommend) let me know and I can dig up the pertinent info. I may not be much help for potential C&R holders in California, because they abide by an entirely different set of rules as promulgated by the California Department of Justice.

I recently applied for my C&R, still waiting for it to arrive.

I've heard that some shops, such as Brownells, give discounts to C&R holders on some items. Do you know if the discounts are only for C&R related items or anything in the catalog? Specifically, I'm wondering if anyone offers discounts on ammo of all varieties.

Fly, Brownell's discount is for everything in the catalogue.

Not just C&R-applicable stuff.

You also should contact Midway, they offer a FFL-holder's discount, even a C&R FFL. Not a bad deal!

I haven't seen any discounts for FFL holders on ammo, but that doesn't mean they don't exist.

California

The regs. that come with the license are enough to put an elephant on it's knees. Those of us in California seem to be blessed with needing to make sure that the firearm in question is fifty years old, or older. Collecting handguns is verboten. C&R's are treated as if they do not have a license and must go through a class 1 FFL. Perhaps, someone is aware of other special cosiderations in California.

You can still use your 03 FFL to purchase C&R handguns. You just have to do it while out of state and have to register them within 5 days of brining them back to California.

I was talking to a lady at CA Doj, and she told me that if I wanted to purchase handguns directly, I would need to apply for a COE (Certificate of Eligibilty). I believe she said that with this certificate I could purchase C&R handguns and also be exempt from the 1 gun a month rule. Just want to know if this is true.

Yes, it is true. With a COE you are exempt from the waiting period for all C&R firearms purchases from a California Dealer and are also exempt from the 1 handgun a month rule for all handguns (not just C&R).

Now the down side. The initial cost of the COE is $75.00 for the first year and $17.00 a year after that. You also have to submit fingerprint cards with the initial application.

Is it worth it? That's for you to decide.

I've had mine for about a year. I've saved enough on the transfer fees at my dealer ALONE to pay for the license for the next 65+ years, not even counting the 50% difference in buying a gun from a wholesaler vs. buying it at retail prices at a dealer or gunshow. It has to have saved me between 2 and 3 grand last year!
(Do you know how MANY WW2 guns there were? I've picked up 35 different ones in the last year and I ain't there yet! )
