Even tho I'm also a member of the 642 Club, I had to vote with my heart. That being the case, I had too vote for the S&W model 37-2; as I
have always admired these little Airweight Chief's Specials. Besides I like
the element of surpsrise on my side, with the model 37s matte finish there is
absolutely nothing to give the criminal element an advantage.

638

Just because I carry A 642, I do own a 638 and it feels left out of the J frame snubby poll.
I might have to take it out for a shoot tommorrow. Keep it happy.

Well, I really have no interest at all in anything on your list. That being the case, I voted M37 just because out of the 3 it's the one I would probably most enjoy aesthetically.

I voted for the 642 since it is closest to the 442 that I carry everyday and the 042 that is it's backup. I just prefer my revolvers to be blue, or at least dark.

I also own a 638 and I'm wondering why it was left out??? You listed a Cheif's Special and Centennial models but left out the Bodyguard model.

As long as they are pre-lock any of the three are acceptable to me...I am particularly fond of those 37-2's with the factory bobbed hammer and no lock that were available last year.......they are neat little concealable revolvers.

I am confused. It seems that the 642 should be disqualified. It's got no external hammer - how the heck do you 'fan' it? Come to think of it, I don't believe I've ever seen even Bob Munden fan an Airweight!

I must need more caffein... or my meds...

I voted for the 637, as thats the one on the list I have, and the only one on the list I've fired.Fun and challenging gun to shoot, and GREAT for CCW.I also got it specifically because it DOES have an external hammer, as opposed to the 642.I can certainly understand why most people would prefer no hammer, bobbed hammer, or shrouded for ccw, but I just dont like the looks of a revolver with no hammer, and the hammer has NEVER been a problem for me in regards to snags or anything, even with pocket carry, so.....
I just think the snubbie with hammer is very "classy" looking (but if I really thought it would ever be a snag/safety issue, i'd carry something else, but still have this on just for the looks of it.

Though my go to pocket BUG is now a 642, for twenty or so years prior to Smith's reintroduction of concealed hammer revolvers, I toted a dehoned nickel 37. Still have a soft spot for it.

I own a 637 and its a nice gun.

....but had I thought it thru a bit more I likely would have ended up with the 638.

I also have no idea why you dont think its an Airweight.

Heres a picture from Smith. The weight is listed at 15oz....same as the 637.

The S&W model 638 was purposedly omitted, because it doesn't fall into
the Airweight classification; due too its heavier weight.
Well then you better do your research a little better because the 637, 638 and 642 are the identical weight and gun except for the hammer style.

The M637 Airweight - Chief's Special .38+P 15 oz.
The M638 Airweight - Bodyguard .38+P 15 oz.
The M642 Airweight - Centennial .38+P 15 oz.

Just in case, here is a picture of my Model 638 and you will clearly see it's an AIRWEIGHT! The Model 638 is an Airweight!

......I'm thinking Dan had the all steel S&W model 49 in mind when he thought to exclude the Bodyguards.

That may be possible but if it were me, I would have re-checked my information before I posted a answer like that.

Also, the numbers aren't even close so it's a stretch IMO. M638 - M649 naaa, not even close.
