I wouldn't buy anything made by Vulcan (Hesse) arms.

Try the Masterpiece Arms MAC clones instead. Those are made with RPB parts if I remember correctly. Most people that have them say they work well except for trigger slap, and sometimes the mag catch is out of spec, but you can get it replaced fairly cheaply.
I prefer the SMG versions though, just doesn't seem right to shoot 1 shot at a time through a MAC.

I was under the impression that Vulcan was the new name for Hesse. I guess that Hesse would still be called Hesse except that the word got around how bad their quality control was, so they changed their name. Thankfully, the word got around how bad Vulcan's quality control is.
When I was young and actively and successfully racing cars, an older guy said "speed costs money, how fast do you want to go?".
You can buy a Hesse real cheap.

Vulcan V-10
I'll share my experience. I have a V-10. I was looking for a Semi-auto Mac-10 just for fun...really an impulse buy. I found the Vulcan V-10 (.45acp) out here on the net. It looked cool so I ordered it. After the order was placed THEN I started to read reviews about Vulcan and how it was just the "Hesse" Arms company, just reorganized. I wanted to cancel the order then and there, but the deal was done so I decided to just let it ship and see just how really good, or bad it was. I was surprised the first time I picked it up. It's very hefty...built like a tank. Not the most beautiful thing ever made, but it was solid… nothing was broken, twisted or hanging off as the reviews had me worried. It looks very cool. Pretty utilitarian and that’s the whole point.
Out on the range I shot American Eagle (Federal) and that CCI/Speer Blazer. It didn’t like the Federal, it wasn’t cycling it all the way, but it did eat up the Blazer and tore through every round, never missed a beat. All in all, it was a blast to shoot. Whole lotta fun! I’m actually really happy with it. I guess either I just got lucky, or they aren’t as bad as everyone says. They definitely seem built to last. I’d recommend it if your in the marked for a semi Mac-10. The parts are sturdy and the action was nice. Lite trigger with no bite. I would recommend also getting the fake suppressor to have something else to hold on to.

The MPA10 is the Mac to get. Masterpiece essentially made the gun to much higher tollerances than provious models, with all machined parts from what they claim. I had one for a few months and found it utterly reliable, with a trigger that broke much like a match rifle at around 4lbs. Hardly any creep and quite smooth. Hard to believe in a gun that inexpensive. They use M3 mags and those are also built quite well. I only sold it as I was unable to complete a carbine conversion project I had planned. A good friend bought it and is quite pleased.
As for Hesse/Vulcan, well that company is as bad as everyone says. I have had my first hand experience as well, so whatever you do don't buy one of their guns. If it works fine, but if it does not they absolutely will not help you.

Respectfully, I disagree that these Vulcan’s aren’t up to par. If the gun was junk, I would have turned around and sent it straight back. The tolerances are tight and the trigger is as smooth and crisp as you could want it. I hate to see an American company get a bad rap if they’ve pulled there “stuff” together and are putting out decent products. They give you what amounts to a year warranty on any manufacture defects. If you get a chance to at least try one, I would go for it. The V10 takes grease gun mags as well.
Be assured, if I come across any problems I will be the first to post ‘em out here. One of the things that made me decide to just give it a try was that most of the “reviews” I had read came from a person who knew of a person, who heard a story, kinda thing. I would say keep an open mind and if you get a chance to really try one yourself, first hand, do it!

Even the best let bad guns slip out, and conversly even the worst produce some guns that actually work well. Do you feel lucky? Reports of service or lack thereof, after the sale is very important to my choices.

Yes Sir. I certainly do agree with you that it can be good and bad, from both directions. I felt it important to share my experience with this since it has been a positive one. Honestly I was expecting it to be a big mistake. I really was ready to say forget it and not even bother with seeing if it was worth it or not. But it really does seem like a nice quality piece, so I think it's only fair to say so.

Well anyway I had a Hesse FAL and did not hear from a friend that it was poorly made, it was poorly made.
Somewhere on AK-47.net someone has pictures of the RPK he got from them with the reciever twisted. As I recall the twist was around 15 degrees. It was quite visible and Hesse shipped that way.
But hey, roll the dice if you want to. I have plenty of times.
