Thanks for the link, Bohemus. I've seen custom modified drums, but that is the first one I have seen for retail sale (though it is a modified AK drum as well).

Looks as if they charge about $100.00 for the conversion...so yeah, pretty steep. OTOH, they take all the guesswork out of the equation. Also they have some other parts that might come in handy (like a US made steel trigger control group).

On the other end of the spectrum, I wish somebody made a 20 round mag. for these things!

I'm working on one, and fairly confident that I'll have one up and running as soon as work slows down and I have a chance to complete the project. If anyone is interested I can sell copies, but the price will be fairly costly as the parts required aren't notably cheap (but a lot less than $175.00...that I can guarantee). For those of you with the tools, time, and desire to give it a shot yourself, I will publish instructions for parts acquisition, fabrication, and assembly. If anyone really wants one, I might be able to make a few 15rnd copies as well (10rnd. magazines, in single or double stack configuration, are already available and will be less costly, so I haven't any plans to make any).

Neat concept, but I doubt that it will reach our shores due to firing from an open bolt (which the ATF strongly frowns upon).

No problem, Bohemus. If you did manage to edit your original post, less folks would notice it (doubt that I would). Thanks for adding.

I did note that the linked example has a LRBHO, so I assume that it's an original drum. I'm not positive, but I don't believe that the modified ones (created from 75rnd. AK drums) are capable of this function.

There is no such thing as "original" drum for vz.58. There was only one mag. for it and others are just modifications. But it makes be wonder how did they manage to implant lrbho to it.
 
Hmm, interesting development. I thought the same thing, but came to the conclusion that it had to be original equipment due to that feature. Hopefully the aforementioned one (from the link in post No. 452) also includes a LRBHO (though the photos don't appear to depict one).

Welp, that was fun...:D

These things have a much higher cycle rate that I would have thought. Also, it managed to not jam at all! What a testimate to the drum conversion and the action itself, many people with AK/drum combos that I see at the range tend to have feed issues more often.

Has anyone dealt with the Bonesteel guys? Looks like they have some good stuff as far as muzzle breaks, I'll have to take a look after ordering a Czechpoint in a few weeks. Hopefully they have a decent turn around time.

On a related note, anyone have success having the tacked-on muzzle break removed and replaced with something else? Would most gunsmiths be capable/authorized to do this because of the SBR issue when the break is removed?

Yep, most any gunsmith should be able to take care of you. Can't help you with any of the details, as mine is still in stock configuration (and may very well remain as such), but there are scores of people that have completed the modification, and I have heard reports that it is a fairly easy task.

Good luck with your upcoming purchase, and keep us updated as to the results of your modifications.

And i dont like the odd mag - mag for cz scorpion would be much better - cheaper and it wouldnt require such long ugly mag well.
 
I [mostly] like it. The magwell with long magazine is ugly, but I like the concept. It looks to be a perfect candidate for an SBR (particularly since it comes equipped with a gas block sight).

Do you happen to know type of magazines those are; proprietary?

I have no idea, the gun is still not officially out and this is the only photo Ive seen, IWA took place this weekend so there may be more info soon. It should cost 2/3 the Scorpion does.
And also I would appreciate shorter barrel, 16" is quite pointles (But, in theory it could enable you to purchase JHP ammo for it).
 
JHP and any other expanding ammo is illegal for "short firearms" (barrel under 30cm and overall lenght 60cm) so you could carry JHP ammo in this 9mm vz.58 which is "long firearm", but not in CZ75... Makes no sense (thats what gun laws usually do).
But this belongs to different thread.
 
Getting my Vz this week. After a very long time of drooling over the thought!
Just wondering what size (length) of scope I should be looking for. I will have the side mount on.....

Unfortunately, I don't know where you might find the above shield (although it shouldn't be that difficult to fabricate). IMO the best option is a upper handguard replacement with a sturdy picatinny rail and mount a decent EER scope or red-dot.
