VZ.58 Club:

Shot a club 3-gun match with the VZ yesterday. USPSA style targets ranged from 15 to 100 yards and most of them were partially obscured with no-shoots. I (and a few others) was surprised at how well the accuracy stacked up against the AR's, and follow-up shots were fairly quick with good control. It won't replace the AR, but it sure was fun to bring something different to the firing line. :D

Just got a VZ2008.Finish looks great all black and uniform. The seller included 2 mags. One holds the bolt open 1 doesn't. Anybody know why? Also there's a small spring loaded button by the mag well whats that for?Fit and finish are really above any Century product i have ever seen. Well done!!

The button is the bolt catch. There is a tab on the back of the magazines follower that rides inside the channel on the back, right of the magazine. If you compare the back of the 2 mags, you should see this and may notice a difference on the bad mag from the good one.

Hey bozzman...good to see another VZ in CT. :D
If the mags(or mag) are loose in the well they might not put enough pressure on the slide lock to activate it for a last round hold open......If this is the problem it can be corrected be its not an "easy fix"

Thanks for the info guys! Thanks for the welcome Maverick223 .Mikepain I see you on Ctgun, and I got this VZfrom a member on CTgun. He purxchased this VZfrom BMG for $750. Thats the going rate for a neutered one in Ct!!

Keep an eyeball out, myglimk2 and I have been busy hammering away on our VZs....Were going to do a photoshoot with the finished rifles for the forum gallery as soon as they are "done".

Vz mounts

I am looking for a way to mount a scope to my ohio ordinance vz 2000. It has front pic rail for red dot, but I want a regular scope mounted to rear of gun.

Thanx 68wj.
I saw the mount but not the attaching bracket.
Not ready to drill holes in it yet.
But at least I have another option now.

modern up

Here's how I found mine a bone stock, unfired CZ Vz58 Sporter.

I had planed to leave it alone, but a bud shot my Vz and liked it so much he got a Sporter for himself. Then "it" started, tossing a few ideas around, next thing you know we are in full build mode
Finished it up this weekend. I'm more than happy with how this all came together and even more impressed with how it is shooting.

Looks good coalbed, I think I might have to give those a shot myself. Just need to rummage around the shop and see what type of suitable metal I have for the project.

Thanks coal, I've been tossing around the idea myself of adding "something" to extend the mag. release....I'm looking forward to seeing more of your pics.

As far as the metal goes, I read that the reason the aftermarket bolt release is so expensive is that they use hard tool steel for the whole thing. I thought about it and the only part with stress on it is the "catch pin" that actually stops and holds the bolt. The rest can be made of mild steel. If you hang it on something it will bend and not break as a plus. The one I made works 100% but I did make more than a few mistakes and learned a bit from the build. One thing Im thinking is that everyone may be on the wrong track with the "lever" type release. It moves around a good bit and I read the aftermarket "pro" ones do too. Im going to make one with a "half-round" type release that should have a more solid feel. Anyway the one I made works fine and Ill post a step-by-step when my computer parts come in, along with a drawing of the one I THINK will work better.

Couple of pics, one was here earlier but got lost, so I put it up again. If I would be naming guns, I would opt for "classics" and call it Vera.

Finally got a little addon for the rifle, but the work is not done yet, rifle would primarily need fiber-sights and extended mag and bolt release, and maybe later a FAB forearm for VFG. But I am almost happy with it the way it is now.

Bayonet does make it look a bit evil, but the can more so:

Suppressor is Ase-Utra SL7, good enough to shoot a 24 inch barrel 300WM rifle without any hearing protection all day long. Couple of interesting things came out.

First, what recoil? Both the suppressor itself and the additional weight gets the recoil to pretty much a .22LR level. I would go for a lighter one though, since the barrel is pretty thin and the SL7 weights around half a kilo, SL5 would be almost 200 grams lighter. So far the suppressor made the hits move to the right for about one meter at the 100 m line. On the other hand on the beforementioned 300WM the POI moves 2 centimeters vertically @ 100m. Perhaps the lighter one would be better.

Secondly, the backblast was quite cool, I had gunpowder on my face, charging handle was covered with soot :uhoh: and the internals were even worse. I will only say this - thank a divine power for the chrome lined internals. Everything was literally black, like I was shooting a H&K G3 rifle suppressed for a week without any cleaning...

One day I did search the internet for the experience of suppressing the VZ and how it works out. With that can and that ammo, both Sellier&Bellot 123 grain FMJ and Russian army milsurp, it stings the left ear a bit (support side, actually), due to large gas port and the holes under the piston head. By sting I mean a slight ringing for a few seconds. Subjectivly I would say the M14 with blanks, or a 9 mm pistol is louder. So I could shoot it without any protection if necessary, but I would not do that every time.

I have to think a bit and maybe i could tweak the rifle a bit to get that noise down, origining from the gas holes.

But even with the heavy suppressor the rifle is quite light and easy to carry for prolonged period (say, day or two). Been there and done that already.

That is one large suppressor, Medusa. That said, even 0.5Kg (a little over a pound in imperial) isn't that bad, not for a magnum rated sound suppressor anyway.

:)
