CZ-USA stopped selling them a couple of years ago. The CP ones are true VZ-58s, Dtechniks - made from a real czech reciever, and real CHF chrome lined barrel. And... Czechpoint is a pleasure to deal with - the price IS the price - you pay nothing else - just go to your ffl and pick it up - period. It is a HIGH quality product with high quality finish. A European barrel and receiver are worth it. It is higher end AR quality (think Colt/Daniel Defense) with CFH barrel - think about what that costs in an AR - over $1000.

US parts are NOT a problem - either buy the $19 mags from CP, or buy AIM and change the followers and bases.

The difference between a Century and a Dtechnik are large. But, some have gotten decent guns from CAI. But, in my book, the Czech receiver made in the same factory as the Czech VZ and CHF barrel are worth the expense.

yes cz-usa has pulled the vz58 from their lineup. i have a cz usa vz bought from jg sales couple years back, with the deep gray finish. but others stated czechpoint is the way to go. now you should ask your self, do i want as close as an original vz58(czechpoint)? or the cheaper priced century vz2008?

FWIW the VZ-2008s have garnered favorable reviews in the past year or so. I don't own one, so I can't say anything for certain, but I would take the chance on it if I didn't have the loot for the D-Technik. Personally I like the park'd finish better than the somewhat glossy finish on mine, but both are very durable. I do, however, prefer the safety selector and Czech barrel on the D-Technik.

I called Classic Arms a couple days ago, and they informed me that the Vz.2008 was no longer being manufactured (I'm hoping that they meant that CAI just hadn't imported any lately...that much is true). Haven't done any research to confirm that statement, but that is somber news, as they apparently had most of kinks worked out of the carbine.

Anyone know anything about it?

EDIT: I have found a source confirming that Century said no more will be coming...but still no reputable sources.

Welcome to the club, Yeager, that is an old one. Not to discourage you from converting it (which is definitely a worthwhile venture IMO), but don't forget that you also need to swap the bolt for a double stack one (Czechpoint should have what you need).

I could see Century limiting production going forward and marketing the VZ2008 as a special edition or limited edition offering at 500 bucks. They would still sale at that price and would be a more profitable gun in that circumstance.

There might also be some shortages in kits (in good shape). Once those dry up them Century could sale the guns "naked" at 400 bucks...

Will await official word but something had to give, ANY gun at 350 dollars is a deal but while the getting was good on the VZ2008 it was a STEAL!

The original source escapes me, but the individual claimed that someone at CAI stated that they were permanently discontinued...add in the guy at classic that said the same and the claim is sounding plausible. That said, they could be one in the same and/or simply talking to the wrong monkey at CAI. I hope that's the case, as they seem to have corrected the flawed VZ-2k series with the new VZ-2008s.

How hard is it to cut the single stack receiver to accept 30s anyway? I know about the bolt.

I talked to Czech point about it and they stated that it was all but impossible to do without sophisticated machinery. But I've seen tons of single stack receiver rifles cut to accept 30s on the web.

I'm with Czechpoint; personally I wouldn't attempt it without a milling machine, or at the very least a drill press, with a cross-sliding vice, and end-mills...and the experience to adequately run that equipment. If that isn't the case I would take it to a competent machinist or preferably a good gunsmith with experience fabricating weapons and/or performing severe modifications to existing firearms.

In short this booger is magnitudes more difficult to convert than your standard single-stack AK.

I like the one it comes with but I may want to change it out; I also like the looks of the standard military furniture so I wouldn't mind having it in case I wanted a change. I Googled it but didn't come up with many results. Thanks.

i liked the way bennybone's vz 58 turned out w/zahal furniture now(israeli-weapons.com)....hello everyone, new to the site and my interest in building a vz58 has brought me here... are there any builders here? also my rifle building expirence is limited to fals and afew ar's, so kinda a neewbie to the vz..i do have 2 kits w/receivers, one is a 10rec and the other is the ORF...had them for afew years because the century vz for $400 seemed to be way to go but they're gone and i guess i'm back to building my kits..anyway just wanted to say hello.....cbr

Here stateside, I'm not aware of any retailer that sells long barrels. In CAN, the length is restricted to 18in.+ IIRC, hence the longer bbl.

It's a 18.5" barrel. I cut the FS down and installed a railed barrel clamp and railed AR stock adapter, this allows the mounting of AR BUIS sights.
