Someone really needs to make a more affordable top cover, $300 is alot to spend for the Zahal cover and its another $50 shipping, so that sucks:banghead: I thought about welding a rail to the top of the original cover, but as someone mentioned, it wouldn't be worth it because it couldn't possibly hold zero.

I put one of those Ace stock folding mechanisms on it, I don't like it, I'm going to get rid of it and get the push button version for about $40 more, the regular one is extremely hard to fold.

$300+50 for "Zahal"(kinggun actually) is rather too much, its about $180 here. So if you can find good way to ship it..

My spring cover cost about the same price Zahal asks, but quality is somewhere else..

Bohemus, what do you mean a good way to ship it? Could you buy one for your price and ship it to me??!!

Is it like part no. A500 as seen here: http://riflestocks.com/store/page19.html? If so I have part no. A500PB (which is currently attached to my Saiga-12 and has been modified by drilling and tapping the part to accept a sling swivel stud for sling attachment). I don't care for it because it doesn't lock up as tight as I'd like so I would be willing to trade you for yours + $20.00USD (we each pay our own shipping)...sound like a win-win?

:)

Damn Maverick, that sounds like a winner, send me a pic of your item and we just may have a deal:) What do you mean, it doesn't lock up as tight? The 500 is exactly the one I have and it locks up extremely tight, so tight in fact, its a pain in the ass to fold it...

You've got mail.

To answer your query regarding the lock-up; no, I haven't found the push-button (henceforth referred to as "PB") type Ace folding mechanisms to lock up as tight as the non-PB style. I've tried a few, so mine's not just one that got away from the inspector. If that's not an acceptable trade-off then you might want to reconsider swapping for a PB style Ace adapter and try a different manufacturer altogether (the OEM VZ.58 folder affords very tight lock-up and is still fairly easily deployed, but it, too, is a compromise as it does not afford a long enough LOP for some folks nor a good cheek-weld for use with optics) or just keep the one you already have. I do, however, really like the Ace style stock as well as the quick deployment of the PB style version and overall strength of both the folding mech. and the stock itself (if I put a little work into the adjustment set-screw and the locking key I could probably get it to work exactly as I'd like, I just have too much on the table to mess around with it at this present time).

:)

Has anyone tried extending these stocks before? I've been mighty tempted to stretch mine about 1.5" so it'll fold around the drum I have

Seems like it'd be easy for someone with a TIG welder and an angle grinder to splice on a short piece of bar and bring it up to "western" LOP standards--too bad I don't  . Attaching a couple risers and a curved steel cheekpiece would be fairly easy as well, for a (slightly) more comfortable but equally durable folding stock.

I think I know what I'll be saving up for next...:D

I don't have a TIG, but I do have a MIG and angle grinder. If you can't find anyone local to perform the operation ship both the old and new one to me and I'll fix you up free of charge (less return postage).

:)

I think I bought them all:neener: I ended up getting something like 14 30rders and 2 75rd drums.... I think that will suffice for a lil range gun;)

mag

In Europe mags can be had in 5, 10, 15, 20 and thirty round capacities. Even 40 if IRC.

In the US it's 30 and 10, pretty much, Factory 20s are rare as hens teeth. No 5 rounders, either, so only places like AZ which has no mag limit for hunting can the SA vz-58 be used as a hunting rifle.

limit

Around Texas hogs are the current most hunted animal. No limit for hogs. Not a game animal.
Twenty round mags are much better for prone and bench. Ammo generally comes in 20 round boxes. Of the dozen or so AR 15s I have owned I mostly used 20 round mags.
Selling my last one tomorrow to be able to buy more ammo for my 58.

Don't know the import regs but always looking for them.
Saw one on ebay once but it was too late.
