20 round mags

Hey Maverick, I have a mag with a ding in it I was thinking of making a 20 out of. Would you mind telling what length you cut yours to? it would save allot of figuring. Did you ever make a 5 round for hunting?

I haven't got around to making a 5rnd version yet, but my 20s are still doing just fine. Here & here are links to post no. 578/579 where I detailed the process of fabricating the 20s. Looks like I used a length of 6-3/8in. from the top of the notch for the BHO (not the actual top, but the part of the magazine that houses the actuator for the BHO {which is part of the follower}) and 5-3/4in. from the top of the magazine not the feed-lips, but the flat area at the very top of the front/center).

If you decide to make a 5/10/15/et cetera you should be able to follow the same procedure and just cut the magazine body a bit shorter and clip the spring a bit more (if you do so, and it works please post the lengths for both the body and spring...if it doesn't share anyway so we can learn from your mistakes :p). Hope this helps.

Never heard of [KCI vz.58 magazines]
+1, tell us more.

All I could find in a brief search was these (which are 30s that are pinned to hold 5rnds), are these the magazines that you are referring to, lone-wolf?

That's a pretty interesting variant. It looks to be very well executed. Is that a one-off custom or a modification available from a large company (I'm guessing the latter considering that Bratia is the name of a river...and presumably a firearms manufacturer as well)?

:)

Holy cow that thing is cool! Get one of those running 9mm or 7.62x25 from Suomi or PPS magazines, and you'd be all kinds of set . I believe there are actually magwell conversions around to fit those mags in AK (and by extension VZ) magwells. Far, far more practical and compact than a pistol-caliber AK conversion. It's too bad these guns don't lend themselves to a swappable front end or barrel, or I'd be keen to look into it further :(

I see, I'd heard of the river (just looked it up, it's in Romania not Slovakia), but my Czech is pretty weak. At any rate it looks like your buddy has put together a nice build, though I, too, would like to see one in 7.62x25mmTok. (which, at present, is fairly inexpensive here in the states).

Are these good for the money?

I have to admit that I haven't kept up with pricing as of late, but that appears to be a fair price IMO. Certainly far better than what they were selling for last year. I believe that you'll find it to be a fine carbine if you have reasonable expectations for it (after all it is a lightweight, intermediate cartridge rifle...one that excels at the roles that it was designed to fulfill).

:)

if that comes with mags ,buy it ! mine is a sweet shooter. only thing is its a us barrel . wrap the folder with paracord and report back how much fun it is. mine has been flawless .... they are lighter than an ak and are superior is various ways.

That pistol caliber vz is sweet.... Forget the Tok round forget the 10mm round and keep it in 9mm. And if your talkin about a defensive use... There's better options out there ....how about a shotgun with 00buck

ifit: Its hard to carry and conceal shotgun, its pretty hard to shoot lupara, but there are numerous ways to carry short carbine (Scorpion EVO3, 9mm vz.58, etc..) and its much faster and menouverable, not to mention capacity.
