Violent Home Invasion Robbery

November 23, 2003

By Emily Langlie

KITSAP COUNTY - Sunday turned into a terrifying morning for a Kitsap County family.

They were hog-tied for two and a half hours until one woman could crawl to the phone and dial 911 with her tongue.

Police say this was not a random robbery.

"They barged in with guns pulled and they jumped on my back. Then they told me not to move or they're going to kill me," said one of the victims named Bill.

He still has red marks on his wrists and ankles from where he was hog-tied by masked gunman in a rural home.

Bill, his wife, and his 5-year-old son were asleep in one room when the home's owner was confronted by three armed, masked men.

"They grabbed her by gunpoint, and they put us all in a room, handcuffed us, and said they were going to shoot us," explained Bill.

He thinks the robbers may have approached the secluded house two days ago, but he scared them off.

Sunday morning, they had a look out on the driveway with a walkie-talkie. They mowed down the front gate, escaping in the homeowner's car.

They also got away with the homeowner's rare coins that she sells on eBay.

"They filled it up with all the coins, ran the gate, and then drove right out of here," said Bill.

"It wasn't a spur of the moment 'let's drive by the house, take a look inside and see who's there,' " said Detective Scott Wilson with the Kitsap County Sheriff's Department. "From what we can gather, the perpetrators seemed to have know that woman was inside the house and they were looking specifically for certain items."

Detectives suspect the house was targeted because a woman who used to live there had a drug debt - that may have brought all this horror on for the current residents.

Police found the stolen getaway car, a Kia Sportage, on a dirt road about 7:30 p.m. Sunday. It had been set on fire.

This kind of thing is why I keep a pistol close 24/7. I know it may never happen. I know that if it does I may not be able to stop it...I also know I'll probably be shot trying to defend wife, home, and myself...but you can't just lay down and take it. I'll not run out the back door, and I'll not be on my knees to be shot in the back of the head! Win or lose...I plan to make a stand.
Mark.
(there have been two invasions with in half mile of my house this year...makes it a little more real to me)

Pure dumb luck they're alive.

Witnessing unspeakeable acts commited against your loved ones while duct-taped into a ball is not a happy time.

For the reasons why my bedside table companion is a Springy 1911-A1, underbed buddy is the Maverick/Mossy 12GA, then the Most Serious Artillery is the US Rfile Cal .30 M-1 Popularly Known as 'The Garand', see above.

The only time I don't have a gun is when I'm in the bathroom in the morning taking my shower...I'm can see I'm gonna have to change this...I need a bathroom gun..........maybe my Glock due it being "plastic"......this kind of stuff is SCARY.......we need to feel safe in our homes or the bad guys win....

Wanna bet she had people send payments to her home address?

I was going to guess that she put her home address as the return address when she mailed out purchases...most full-time ebay sellers use paypal.

Mental note: when running a business over ebay, have a PO Box return address.
