Seeking more tools in a campaign to end a worrisome spike in teen gun violence, police Thursday announced a gun buyback program to be kicked off next week. Gun donors will receive $100 gift cards in time for holiday shopping.

...

Those who hand in eligible firearms will get a $100 gift card redeemable at Shaws, Wal-Mart, or Stop & Shop.

So explain to me again how Wal-Mart is our friend? You people who continue to patronize that company amaze me. Your blind loyalty borders on total madness.

Mosin-Nagants are $69 if you look hard enough, $30 profit each.

Wal*Mart is no ones' friend. Nothing they do is of any benefit to society, including this.

So the local gun bigots buy a bunch of wal-mart gift cards and now Wal-Mart is supporting gun grabbers? Naw, I don't buy it. The last place I worked wanted a pile of Wal-Mart gift cards to give out at a holiday party, they sent me down with $1000.00 and buy 100 $100.00 cards. Wal-Mart didn't ask who I was with, just took the money. Doesn't mean they supported the business I worked at.

dont whore yourself out for a get rich quick scheme selling back crap guns. you only give the antis more numbers in statistics and more claims of getting those "soviet military high powere rifles" aka nagants off the streets

dont sell out to their side for a few quick bucks. if you do your a traitor to us all

Wal-mart, yeah, I've been in that store before. They sell some guns. If I recall they even have a few for under $100. Hmmmmm. could trade you mosin-nagant for a savage .22, I guess.

It would be funny if Jim and Della, who were poor, and both liked guns, each traded in their guns to get each other $100 worth of Ammo from Wal-mart, not knowing that the other person had traded in their gun.

if you visited my local sportshop you would drive an hour to buy a gun at walmart also...heck while youre there buy 3 boxes of ammo for just about any rifle and youve saved your gas money

So cosmoline because the antis bought Wal-Mart gift cards that means Wal-Mart is against us  . Unless Wal-Mart offered the cards to this anti organization free of charge I still plan on buying some .40S&W there this Monday ;) . If I buy a gift card from Wal-Mart for somebody this christmas and use it towards buying a new shotgun, or rifle would that be a sign of them making the shift to being pro gun? Wal-Mart like Target, Best Buy and all the others are there to make money end of story.

Ammo is cheaper at your wal-mart? Here it's more expensive than at the corner gun shop.

Wal mart-- 4.99 for 20 rounds .223 fmj in brass
Meijer-- 5.29 for 20 rounds .223 fmj in brass
Corner gun store-- 4.99 for 20 rounds
9.99 for 40 rounds
45.99 for 200 rounds

Plus the gun store has things like 45-70, .458 Lott, hornaday TAP (whatever that is), and so forth.

Am I the only person here who is thinking "Hey, I should go sit outside the Police Headquarters and offer $110 cash apiece for those guns before they get dropped off"? At least I'd get a first pick on the hardware.

Thats a good idea, I wonder if they would try and stop you for some reason, although it should be perfectly legal.

A) Valid at several stores? Sounds like the "buyback" sponsors just bought some generic gift cards. How is Mal*Wart at fault for that?

B) So the gift cards were donated. Mal*Wart doesn't support "buybacks," then--here in Norman, they still sell guns. Know what that means? Their "principles" are enumerated at the bank.

Seriously--if somebody's a strong anti, and ponies up dough for his cause, I may disagree with him, but at least I can respect him for putting his money where his mouth is. If Wallyworld sells guns in some locales, and contributes to "buybacks" in others, that's no principle at all, just bending to the local winds. And that, my friends, is disgusting.

Where are you? Mars? I want to move there.:)

Here, it's cheaper daily at Wal-Mart than it is at the cheapest gun shop, on sale.

I'm just talking about plinking ammo, generally, but that's what I care about. I can pay $30+ for a box of top-notch hunting ammo, because I won't be shooting a thousand rounds of it. I don't mind paying "boutique" prices for the stuff. But for cheap FMJ .223? I'll buy bulk, thank you. No added value at the small shop, for a commodity item. It's Wal-Mart, or mail order.

Sears bought out K-Mart here, no more ammo there. No ammo at most hardware or other such stores, even most sporting goods stores, any more. The state has made it too much of an expensive PITA, from what I can tell.

Wal-Mart provides the only real competition where I live, and I'm glad they do.

When China-Mart puts all the local independent gun and sporting goods stores out of business, what then?

Personally, I'll gladly pay 5% more for a product to avoid China-Mart.

Well, gun shops generally have more variety in ammo. Wal-mart has cheap FMJ.

I don't have any issue at all with making a little money or buying more guns and ammo at the expense of gun grabbers. Undermining buy back programs to enhance your collection is fine with me.
I have heard of many people buying guns out in front of these events, but I think the local LEO's will ask you to leave if they find you doing that.

Interesting variation on O'Henry's "The Gift of the Magi."

sarcasm, sir, sarcasm ;)

Walmart is a business. They carry certain merchanise and sell it to make a profit. The prices are geared to the local market and will vary between stores in different locations.

Just because they are giving walmart gift cards does not mean that walmart is paying for them. They may be giving a discount, but I doubt it.

The majority of the guns they will get are the old pieces of operational junk that are lying around. Old ladies may turn a few in. I would just station myself near the buyback area and have some cash with me. :)

To cut down on previous failings of gun buyback programs — people turning in relics from the attic, not Glocks off the street — police have imposed some restrictions. Non-operational guns, rifles, shotguns antique firearms, BB guns and holsters will be accepted, but no reward will be given.

Try this, go down to the buy-back location, walk up and tell them you can't wait to sell that old hunk of junk so you can go to Wally World to get a new .22!!!

Personally, if it were me and there was one nearby, I'd think about taking that old broken down single shot in so I could replace it with a shiny new .22.

If there's a stipulation in the gift card that prevents buying firearms, $100 worth of groceries and use the $100 cash to buy the gun!

My distant relative used to manage a pawn shop. Last time they did this near Houston, they got some cheap handguns and such; 3 or 4 of them went down and got $100 gift cards to Oshmans.

Guess I'm just a contrary old fart and it's your choice, but the idea of any gun owner taking any gun to one of these buy back programs just don't set quite right with me.:(

They want your glocks for $100, not your mosins.
