I just bought some of the Winchester "White Box" 9mm, which I learned about thanks to the folks here on THR. The box is marked: 9mm Luger, 115 gr. FMJ, Target/Range, which would lead me to believe that this is pretty unremarkable stuff velocity wise.

However, I noticed in another posting re: P38's that someone remarked on how "hot" the White Box 9mm is loaded. Sort of took me by surprise, as I assumed (don't know why) that this stuff would be no great shakes as to velocity and pressure.

That being said, is this stuff hot? Would a steady diet be bad for my Kahr P9? Now that I have the Kahr AND a source for inexpensive ammo, I would hate to find out that the one isn't good for t'other

It's not hot. It's fast because it's a light round, but that's it. Load it and shoot away. As an added bonus, you may average 101 or 102 rounds in a box of 100.

It is not too hot. At the chrono stages of matches I have seen it run from 1150 to about 1215FPS depending on gun type. I have also seen it vary 40 FPS shot to shot in the same gun. Cheap ammo is just that, expect no award winning long range accuracy. For 7-10yd plinking it is fine.

I use a lot of WWB 115gr 9mm in my Ruger P89. Seems to shoot fairly clean and is as accurate as I am for a range round. The Winchester website says it has a velocity of 1190 fps at the muzzle and 362 ft.-lbs. of energy.

I also use Sellier & Bellot 9mm in the same bullet weight. It has a velocity of 128 fps and 421 ft.-lbs. of energy. This seems to shoot about the same for accuracy and is just as clean. The primers have a red sealer and I do get a build up on the face of the slide but it comes right off with some #9 and an old toothbrush.

I went on Winchester's website and didnt see any ballistics on the WW box ammo.

Anyone else have a link to the ballistic performance?

It's your typical 115 grain practice fodder.
Good stuff, other than a very high shot-to-shot deviation in velocity.
I prefer flat points and hollow points to ball, and 125's to 115's, so I load my own practice fodder.
My practice stuff was always pretty lame when I just shot my CZs, because they are undersprung from the factory.
With the addition of stiffer springs, and other 9mm models at my disposal, I chose to do your typical 125HP at 1200 or thereabouts, so I'd say that the WWWWB ammo is made to function in the largest number of guns possible, and is neither too warm, nor too cold for practice ammo.
It's good for the price, too.

Since I don't own & operate a 9Milly, I don't buy said ammo. Does the WWB stuff in 9Milly come "loose-packed", i.e. 100 or so rounds just tossed in a box? The .45ACP stuff comes in 2 of the 50-round styro-foam trays.

You have to select the round type and then plug in caliber, their label name, use and bullet type to get to the page.

Here's the 9mm page. http://www.winchester.com/products/catalog/handgunlist.aspx?cart=OW1tIEx1Z2Vy&bn=5&use=T&type=FMJ
Note that there are 3 different items and 2 are 115gr. The Q4172 is a target round in a box of 50 using a foam packing insert. The USA9MMVP is the loose-packaged "Value Pack" box of 100 such as you find at Wally World. Click on a "symbol" to see the description and ballistic information.

Outdoor Marksman (www.outdoormarksman.com ) also lists ballistic information for most all of the rifle and pistol ammo they offer. They sell Winchester, Remington and UMC, Federal, S&B, Wolf, and the Miwall new and reloaded brand. Just go thru the different windows to find a caliber and select the brand description to find the ballistic data. They take their informaion from the various manufacturer's web pages. It's easier to compare data there than too bounce between the different websites.

I thought maybe I was just special, this happens to you too huh? :D

Although I've had many boxes with 101 or 102 I've never had one less than 100.

Foghorn, yes the 9mm bulk packs come 100 rounds to a box packed loose, unlike the 45 which is in two fifty round plastic trays. The 9mm also seems to be cleaner. Maybe just due to the case size. I've shot lots of the bulk pack 9mm and have been happy with it. However when I tried the 45 bulk pack I found it to be really dirty. I'm using Federal American Eagle now for 45 practice ammo. It's a lot cleaner and only $184 delivered per thousand from Natchez.

Here she be......

Cost is $10.95 at local Wallmart. $1 more online.
I was getting 1160fps in my 4" G19 with the standard copper-jacketed 115gr wwb.
I've never chronographed these brass-jacketed ones yet.

Where can you get it online? Wally World wont get it here .

From what I have seen on some of the Internet ammo suppliers, they either won't ship to AK or you have to go thru some hoops for freight. I order from Outdoor Marksman in Salem, OR and they will ship to AK but you have to call them to make "arrangements", whever that means. Go to their main web page www.outdoormarksman.com and go down to the bottom for their phone number.

They are a distributor for Miwall Corp. and they show up to the local gun show in Puyallup, WA which is almost every month. Their prices are the same as the internet prices, so sometimes I just buy there.

What makes it even more fun is I live on an island . The only wa I can get it here is to have it drop shipped to Seatle and put on a boat headed for here .All of that stuff goes by weight , so I need to do a lot of work to stretch my shooting dollors .

I have been buying the bulk 9mm for a couple of years now. What I would really like to see is Walmart carrry a 100 round .40 S&W value pack. I have heard of people buying the WWB 100 packs in .40 but I have never been able to find them myself. Anyone seen such at their local walmart????

Yep! $14.95 at my local Wally World packed in two 50 round styrofoam trays like the .45.

Ditto. $15 for .40 S&W 100 pack @ my local wal-mart.

I'm glad I found this site to recommend me the WWB when I started shooting. I dont even want to think how much I could have spent if I used other, more expensive ammo.

I've seen the 9Milly & .40 value packs both at my closest Wal-Mart, but they just can't seem to get the .45's.

My local WM just built a new store next to the old one. They moved the ammo shelves over, and have a marked space for the .45 Value pack. 2 different guys in sporting goods have told me they never had the .45 Value pack, and that Winchester doesn't sell it.

I one time bought all 3 boxes of the Value-pack .45's they had on the shelf...haven't seen it since. Next closest Wal-Mart usually has about 8 boxes of it on the shelf.

Hi, I get the .40S&W value pack at both local Wal-marts . $14.95 per box of 100 rounds. Thats the reason I bought a CZ40B ! Once Wal-mart has a round it's here to stay ..........WVleo

If only Winchester would market (and Wal-Mart would carry) 100rd value packs in .38spl and .357 magnum. *sigh*

I wonder Walmart is so hit or miss with having the value packs??? $14.95 for 100 rounds of .40 of .45 is a great deal!! It beats paying a bunch of shipping when I buy it mail order. I think we should find out why they can't have more of the 100 packs.

I've asked about the .45 value packs at my Walmart, but they say they haven't seen them either. Odd how distribution is so inconsistent. They have the 9mm and 40S&W, but not the .45's.

Our three local Wally World's carry all three value packs. The product number on the end flap for the .40 S&W is USA40SWVP. The product number on the .45 ACP is USA45AVP. I don't have any 9 mm value packs right now. Maybe you could get your Wally World to order some for you. The sporting goods department manager at the Wally World I usually shop at is ex-military and is a hunter and shooter and very helpful. Good luck.
