2 weeks ago I walked into local Wallmart and all the guns were gone. I complained to person in charge and they said weren't makeing money selling guns. Went it tonight and cases are full again  Not one on sale so not a clearence thing. Manager was gone Might go to town tommrow and see why change .

There was quite an uproar over this a month or two ago.

Seems the deal is Wal-Mart is trying to move up the food chain, and in some markets become a more "upscale" shopping environment.

Across the board, they are paring down their inventory. In many different product lines, where you might have had 5 choices before, now you may only have 3.

It must have worked, they made a 6% profit last quarter...

Here in southern AL, Walmart's hunting section is large. It'd be a huge financial loss, but they have the right to sell whatever they want.

WAL-MART GUNS

My little Kansas town has a brand new SUPER WAL-MART with no guns & very little ammo! What good is it?

I've heard from firearm dealers in the past that Walmart takes a monetary loss of their gun sales to get residual ammo purchases. Perhaps Walmart was given reason to believe that people would react negative to the loss of guns by going elsewhere for their ammo.

Walmart made its reputation by giving its customer what they wanted as a deep discount retailer. Personally I think that any attempt to turn Walmart into an ‘upscale department store quality’ retailer would be reacted to negatively by their customer base. At any rate, customer reaction would occur over time not be reflected in the very next quarter’s earnings.

I also have heard that Walmart is reducing their firearms/ammo sales in markets where these products aren’t strong sellers (notably anti-gun markets). I find it hard to believe Walmart would yank guns and ammo from rural hunting, sporting, and all around gun friendly locations.

I'm retired but work part time at Wal*Mart in the Sporting Goods Dept. The current company program, at least as I understand it, is to eliminate firearm sales in 1/3rd of its stores. Those market areas that have lower demand for guns are targeted for such action.

Wal*Mart also began introducing "upscale" product lines in clothing and other depts. Wal*Mart is "target"ing (sorry for the pun) those stores that compete in their market share. Growing the customer base while moving away from entry level markets. (My opinion). Guns as an example in New Jersey stores moved out while adding to their exercise equipment offerings. :barf:

We have a nice Walmart. One time I went to ask about the gun stuff. (I go to our Walmart average once a day since it's right down the street.) So I've only once gone to the gun counter.

Dad wanted a Christmas gift and mom wasn't going to buy it. So I had to go get it. I called him when I went in so that I knew exactly what I wanted. There were some guys there talking and when they saw me they said something along the lines of me getting something for a boyfriend or hubby. I said no, but it's a gift for my dad.

I should have said it was for me. Too bad it was only .22 ammo. If it was bigger I would have said it was for me. :neener:

No guns in most Mass stores. It is a growing trend in retail. To many lawsuits, and not enough sales in most stores. Makes little sense to them finanicaly to have to keep up all the records, and cost to have a FFL.

i live in mississippi and have 7 wallys within 50 miles of my house. 4 supercenters and 3 small stores. all carry guns and ammo.

In the nearest Wally World to me there is no guns. No matter, I wouldn't buy any there anyway. I'd rather drive the 20 miles to Citadel or Discount Firearms and deal with knowledgable folk.

In my local Walmart, I spent more time checking out than shopping. So I don't go there anymore. I'd rather support the local gun store anyway.

get it on the web

what you can do, is get it on the web site, print out the inventory number, and take it down to the local wal-mart. They will require a 50% deposit, and you will have to wait for it to be shiped, but hey if it is what you want, and for a good price might be worth it.

Nice one

Wal-Mart is not getting out of the gun market, they are merely reevaluating the market.

Guns will be sold where guns sale they will be removed from stores where they don't

tmy local walmart just got rid of the guns, but they are adding accessories and ammo. I hear they may also start selling muzzeloaders.

My Walmart has guns, and ammo. Mostly rural area in Central NY.

They also have 4 different clay launchers, and rows and rows of ammo for shooting clays, but no clays. . . :uhoh: I don't get that.

around here, wal mart employee bring out 20 cases of clays , within 4 hrs gone, gone , just the freaking gone . made me so mad the next time i saw the clay i got ten cases gone

We are getting a Bass Pro shop in the next few months, I hope they are serious about carrying a good inventory of handguns as well as ammo. I plan on checking it out when the store opens....

I told walmart (called the home office) and told them that if one of their stores did not carry rifles and shotguns, that I would not buy any sporting goods items. And as I would be already driving to the sporting goods shop I would not buy food, as the grocery store is right next to the sports shop.

I also said that I felt that there are many people who just look and end up not buying the gun yet they still buy other stuff. Lose the guns lose them.

It doesn't bother me. I'm not going to buy a gun nor am I going to buy ammo from some pimpled face, poindexter, eighteen-year-old high scool kid, who doesn't know squat about firearms. Besides I don't like the fact that there is a record of what ammunition, how much was purchased & when it was purchased when I buy from them, put into a computer, tallied-up & held off to the side somewhere...maybe I'm just paronoid? :scrutiny:

The North Olmsted, OH store no longer sells guns. I can believe they were losing money. They had nothing but basic hunting guns. No handguns. No ARs or AKs. They had nothing I'd EVER buy. I can hardly fault them for not wanting to be the "Museum of Boring Guns".

They still have ammunition and at pretty reasonable prices for a retail outlet.

I wish Sam's Club would start selling ammunition in bulk the way they do with copy paper and ketchup! :)

Just met the manager of the gun dept. of the local Wally World (Mason, OH)at the gun range. She told me that when the new Super WM opens later this year, her store will close and the new one will not carry guns.

Oh well, I don't buy guns from them anyway.
