Walther P-22 broken hammer spring.

My brother's Walther P-22 seems to have a broken hammer spring. The hammer has no tension whatsoever.

I called Walther America and they sent me a Post paid label to send it in for repair even though the warrenty expired in 09'. I'll send it out tomorrow for my brother and the customer service guy seemed to think it was an easy fix and would probably not cost us a dime. He did say he would call first if it would cost anything for repair.

Has anyone else had this type of problem with the Walther P-22? If so is it a common problem or is there a long wait for repair at Walther?

P22 broken hammer spring

I had the hammer spring break on my P22, that was the 3rd time it went back to the factory, resulting in the gun being replaced, after a fair amount of brutal honesty on my part with the S&W rep. The first time it went to the factory the firing pin broke, the second time it was the trigger spring, both times they sent it back with a letter that read "bill pending estimate" which I assume was thier way of saving face considering they never sent me a bill.

Every other company I have had to send a gun into (Taurus, Rossi, NAA, Kel-Tec) has always sent back a letter stating repairs were covered under warranty and thanking me for being a customer, but none of them sent the gun back with a free mag, which S&W did, twice! But Kel-Tec was nice enough to send me a free hat.

For what its worth, the new P22 I received has run like a champ, in spite of my best efforts to wear it out to the point of causing a critical parts failure.

I wish you the best of luck and I advise you to play hardball with them if they try to bill you, let them know you are aware its an issue with the P22, the woman I talked to that was able to get mine replaced was named Julie, if they put you in touch with her, you are in good hands, dont expect a new gun on its first trip to the factory but really, I think they are going to send it back to you at no charge with a free mag.

The pistol came back today, fully repaired at no charge.

Even though the warrenty expired over two years ago Walther/S&W still stood by their product and customer service was top notch.
