Hi, I am interested in purchasing a Walther P1. I know these have been sold by retailers as C&R firearms, but upon viewing the most recent C&R list from BATF, the Walther P1 is not listed. I am speaking with someone on Gunbroker who claims that the P1 is not C&R eligible because the one he is selling is not 50 years or older. I am certain that all P38s and P1s are C&R eligible since AIM, SOG, and other major retailers have sold them as such.

Does anyone have proof (a BATF letter or some other proof besides saying "well AIM used to have them as C&R so it must be") to prove that the Walther P1 is C&R eligible? And yes, I know that the seller is uninformed because there guns of historic or military interest can have C&R status without being 50 years old, but right now, I have no proof for the seller since the P1 is not listed on the C&R list. Please help. Thanks.

Supposedly back in like 2011 ATF sent a letter to an Army museum curator saying that the Walther P1s were C&R eligible but no one seems to ever post a copy of this letter.

If it's possible perhaps a Google search for when the P 1 was manufactured by serial number. I believe but not certain that the P1 has an alloy frame which might put it in a post C&R status.
