Wanna Play? Which would you pick?

The MSRP thing is a killer...I'd buy used if I had to...retail is right at $500 for many good choices. .22 I'd say conversion kit or Ruger mkIII 5.5" SS bull barrel. I could find a used mkII even cheaper but I like the new mag release.

Glock 17 and 21SF Might have to go used on the 17 to get the 21SF

other choice would be XD 4" service in 9 and .45 though I preffer the SS...which puts retail solidly over budget. The plain jain essential 9mm 4" is well under $500 retail though and the XD45 4" just above it so they'd average $500 each. Those two can share holsters and feel closer in grip than the GLOCK pair. The holster savings would be worth it if you use something decent that's $70-120 towards the XD combos favor...and they come with cheap holsters and mag carriers to start with as well. The GLOCK's add at LEAST $25 each for something "usable" if not ideal holster wise.

You can buy at way under MSRP, so it's meaningless to price a gun that way. I would go used, let the first person take the hit of buying it new. But new, I would do this:

1. .22- Ruger MkIII
2. 9mm- There are so many choices but I would probably go for either a Stoeger cougar, or an EAA Witness Full sized 9mm.
3. .45- My EAA Witness fullsized was an awesome gun, Too bad I had t sell it.

Used would be different:

1.Still the Ruger MKIII
2. CZ 75B
3. S&W 4506

Bersa Thunder .22 MSRP of $282

Taurus Millenium 111BP-12 MSRP of $441 (available for $350)

Armscor 1911-A1 Rock Island CS MSRP of $423 (seen new at gun show for $365)
or
Taurus 145BP MSRP of $483 (seen new at gun show for $440)

Do I get any additional points for speed?

Actually you failed since only one of your three choices have a MSRP of $500 or less.

1. $199.00
2. $449.00
3. $469.00

Tripplebike, if you want to give me $1,500 for all three that would be OK, Just tell me where you want them delivered.

AHHH the infamous MSRP

Easiest thread to answer, ever.

1. Ruger MkII in stainless with a bull barrel (own it)
2. Glock 19 (don't own it)
3. Ruger P90 (own it)

I have owned my P90 for 15 years now, have many tens of thousands of rounds down the barrel, and I can tell you sincerely that I would choose that gun over literally any other .45 there is. I know there are prettier guns, I know there are more expensive guns and I know there are people that will think I am off my rocker. With all that, I still choose it because I trust it.

Plus, I shoot pretty good with it.

Frankly, these three would be my choices regardless of budget. I should also point out that this is a personal choice as opposed to some sort of snobbery. I have owned a Buckmark and enjoyed it, I have owned a couple of different 9mm pistols (and currently have an SR9 and a Glock 26) and enjoy them, and have owned and liked shooting 1911's just fine. Chances are better than average that I will own a 1911 again, as a matter of fact. I also very much enjoy shooting revolvers.

The point I was trying to make here is that It's takes a lot more research to buy a NIB quality handgun for $350 - $450. There are many " diamonds in the rough " handguns out there ". For example when I 1st started looking for a 9MM I was limited to $400 or less. Being a fairly new novice I didn't want to buy used. I just wanted a reliable handgun to enjoy the sport of shooting & since my funds were so limited, I figured if something did go wrong It would be covered & I would not have to shell out any more money. I'm sure there are a lot of people that think this way.

After doing some diligent research I purchased a Stoeger Cougar 8000. Why, the Stoeger?

1st off upon my research I found that it was Beretta designed. It was made on Beretta machines that were moved to Turkey, under Beretta supervision. The Italian made Cougar sold for $700+, the Turkish made Cougar I purchased NIB for $369 & it's the exact same gun. Even the two factory mags that came with it were Beretta mags.

The Beretta Cougar got rave reviews but was priced too high. The Stoeger Cougar got the SAME rave reviews but at 50% less cost.

When I researched how Stoeger owners felt about the gun I had a very hard time finding anything negative.

My Cougar is an all steel gun that has fired over 2250 rds of every brand & configuration of ammo without ONE SINGLE MALFUNCTION. There is no noticeable wear anywhere. Replacement Beretta mags are $19.99 everywhere.

I really don't think one could buy a better or more reliable handgun for under $400 NIB. (MSRP is $469)

Wow--in the last month I just bought a Browning Buckmark Camper, a Stoeger Cougar in 9mm, and my next pistol will either be a CZ75B or RIA 1911 (then the other). So I guess I am voting with my wallet.

.22: Marvel conversion on a series 70 Gold Cup Frame
9mm: a Tuned 9mm barrel and slide on a series 70 Gold Cup Frame
.45: The series 70 Gold Cup.
I could also consider a Kimber or S&W 1911.

Alternatives:
.22: High Standard Victor or S&W M41
9mm: Sig P210 or CZ75 target
.45: CZ97

Choosing guns I don't already have:

1) Bersa Firestorm FS22 Duotone
2) Glock 19
3) RIA 1911 Tactical in matte nickel finish
