I want a 1911 with a commander slide and an officers frame. This will be my CCW. Any opinions? I know Sig makes one, as well as Dan Wesson. Would like to stay under $1500, taking Ed Brown, Wilson, and Nighthawk well out of the running.
thanks

MC

Dan Wesson is heads and shoulders above the Sig. Another way to go is a used Colt CCO MKIV or Gunsite if you can find one.

This is my Colt CCO. I am going to send it off for some custom work after I get my taxes sorted out.

My off duty gun is a custom Fusion 9mm CCO because I wanted a 9mm and got a great deal. If I was looking for a new .45 CCO it would be the S&W SW1911 ES - scandium frame, stainless slide, S&W reliability - what more could you want? $913 from Bud's.

Where are you getting a stinger for $1500... Last time I checked $1900+ Shipping and transfer. Are you talking about used?

My CCO is a Para-Ordnance P13-45. Commander length slide with double stack officers length frame. The frame with grips is only !/8 inch wider than a Colt with standard grips. Alloy frame helps keep the weight down while it carries 13 230grn Gold Dots. Nice.

I replaced a CZ PCR 9mm with a SIG RCS, the PCR is a great pistol, but the SIG blows it away. So far I have had this only 2 months but have nearly 1000 rounds tested through it, no failures with 6 different types of hollow point, Expanding FMJ, and 3 types of Ball ammunition. It is a dehorned, aluminum frame carry pistol with tritium Novak night sights. It has an external extractor, that works, everytime, it shoots way better than the PCR, only my STI Trojan 1911 is as reliable as this SIG. Negatives would be the Magazines have been problematic, nothing that replacing them with Wilson Combat magazines did not cure. The slide has a high sided profile that does not fit my Blackhawk CQC holster but it does fit the leather carry holster very nicely. Detonics may have the first to make a 1911 in this configuration, but again this SIG puts the old Streetmaster to shame on all counts, Fit, Finish and Function. I got this one used at Buds / The Gun Warehouse for $800+ tax. I have seen these new between $929 and $1049 locally in Lexington. Again, SIG RCS is my choice. Dan Wesson would be a good choice before the last 2 price jumps, they used to be worth the money, still nice pistols though.

I have a friend who ordered the RCS Nitron - his dealer cut him a
deal - but he's gonna wait, SIg doesn't have any at the
factory, and the distribuotrs are out as well.

I've had a Dan Wesson CCO for 18 months. It is one of the most accurate, best fitted, troublefree guns I own. It's my favorite carry gun when I have a cover garment on. Extremely accurate, and lightweight for a 1911. You can't go wrong with a Dan Wesson. I also have a stainless CBOB-same high quality.

1911 Carry

That price range puts you in a nice neighborhood with a lot of options...here's one.

This is Colt's new version of its CCO.

Colt calls it Special Combat Officers. The "Special Combat" designation is really a code that translates to Bunches of Money.
The gun is going to be available last November! Of course "last November" is a fluid term. Might see them for sale by 2015-might not. That's Colt for you.
Anyway, from the introduction at the 2010 Shot Show, the word was that the price is supposed to be around $1300. No idea if that's accurate but if it is, I'll probably have one.
Of course, by the time these guns are actually available, $1300 might seem like The good Old Days sort of stuff.

I did pretty much what you're planning to do rellascout. I got this gun (same as your CCO) on GB really right, made a couple of mods, sent it off to CCR for the refinish and have been happy as can be with it.
Love these CCO's.

I own the C3 by Sig. It was my first experience with Sig and it has been the most reliable 1911 I have ever owned. Great sized pistol for ccw and it has been 100% and extremely accurate.

My buddy has the Dan Wesson in 10mm. Initially it came with the wrong springs in it which caused it to screw up every shot. In the end, once Dan wesson fixed the problems, he says its a great pistol.

I was able to try out a friend's S&W 1911ES (officer frame and commander slide) last week at the range, and I was very impressed. Light, accurate, felt good in the hand, and craftsmanship was very good. I liked it.

I have a Dan Wesson CBOB, and the quality is superb. The CCO they make will be the same way, but more money than the S&W. I don't have any experience with the Sig. Those Colt CCOs are hard to come by. One will pop up ever now and then on an auction sight, not recently though. Good luck, I don't think you can make a bad choice with the manufacturers that have been discussed.

I'm looking forward to the new Colt, but that's a LOT of money to be paying for what looks like a fairly stock 1911 with only a couple bells and whistles.

Guess the rollmark for the prancing pony costs a pretty penny these days.

I also bet my LGSs will never see one.

How was the trigger?

What should i expect to pay for one of these Dan Wesson CCO's. I feel like a year or two ago they were like $1100, now they seem to be $1500. That sound about right?

If by any chance you can find an original Colt CCO, jump on it. I stumbled across one years ago in a pawn shop, paid $600, it's my favorite carry pistol and a gem. I have been to a lot of gun stores and gun shows since then and I have never seen another one.

Was the beavertail on it when you bought it, or did you put it on after you picked it up?
