Want a 1911 CCO. Recommendations?

I came across this doing a search because I am really interested in a CCO pattern gun. Looking at them the Dan Wesson and STI Guardian both look interesting.

My only 1911 experience is with government models and I was wondering if there is any preference for or against barrel bushings on these commander size slides.

Personally I run mine with a bushing because I treat them just like a commander sized 1911. The slide and barrel are commander length and the frame is officer sized.

Been down this road a lot. Depending on what you want to spend, here's what I'd suggest:

S&W Compact ES for ~$950

S&W is the best-kept secret in the 1911 world. They just run. Period.

Dan Wesson or a 'smith-looked-at Colt for a few hundred more.

Or flirting with the top end of your budget, a custom Fusion.

This one breaks your budget, but it has a bunch of extras that you don't really need. You should be able to get a simpler one for $1500 plus the cost of a couple of good bottles of wine or Scotch. :) Much like the S&W, it just runs like a sewing machine.

Shmackey - I made the same suggestions earlier in the thread. Great minds think alike!

This is my Fusion CCO-

Whoa--that's uncanny. :)

I wasn't sure what to expect from Fusion--this being my first one, and already having a CCO that ran perfectly--but Bob Serva surpassed my highest expectations.

The more of these I see, the more I want one. I handled an S&W Compact ES the other day and I was very impressed. I'd really like to handle a Dan Wesson CCO though. I've not shot an aluminum 1911 before, but I bet it carries well.

me too ... but the buy in is just so high!

I wonder if I could buy a RIA commander and a RIA officer and make my own kludge cheaper than buying a high-dollar CCO? (mostly kidding)

I think the commander slide on the officer frame keeps the proportions similar to what a full size is. That may be why I find them more attractive than either a commander or an officer model.

I have these they are all great, Kimber Stainless Covert, Les Baer stinger, Wesson CCO. Wesson and Baer 4.25, the Kimber 4"

Husker...I think DW only made about 200 copies of the CCO so you'd be lucky to find one on a dealer's shelf. I was lucky to find one from a seller in Kansas City and bought it sight unseen. I'm real glad I did. Fit and finish is excellent. I was surprised at how light it is. Fits my meaty hand like it was made for me and the trigger is supurb. Recoil is only marginally stronger than my full sized pointman. I would put it on a par with a defender. It carries exceptionally well in a VMII knock off holster. It's as acurate as I could hope for. If you can find one, I'd buy it in a heart beat.

That's not nice. Going and telling me there is no hope in getting one and then extolling the virtues of the gun. It looks like DW made 200 for 2009/10 and it is now a production model, so there may be hope. Though not until I save a bit or sell something else.

By the way. The DW grips look really nice. Does anyone know how thick they are?

I think there is a 2011 DW CCO at a shop near me if you can't find one. I didn't check the serial number. But it did appear to have the 2010+ thumb safety and Novak sights.

They're out there. I think DW is still making them, but DW's website is full of lies. I think they are concentrating on Valors and VBOB's but I still see some nice CCO's and Heritages. Saw a black 2011 Heritage a week ago, that's not on the DW website either.

Any opinions on the SIG offering?

I know they jammed an external extractor on there, but the size is right, I think.
If you are interested in a Sig, this place is having a special http://www.nelsontactical.com/products/sig-sauer-1911-45-acp-rcs-nitron-19gs0021-p-1360.html You probably wont beat the price and they are good people to deal with.

I went with a Dan Wesson though and wouldn't hesitate to recommend one to anyone.

Anyone seen one of these in person? Talo version of the Colt CCO.

I haven't seen one in person yet, but if Talo had opted for Novak night sights over the standard high profile 3 dots it would be near perfect. The lack of the front serrations is nice (it seems 1911 makers are finally starting to see the light), as is the ring hammer and beavertail. It's good to finally see a CCO coming out of Colt's doors after all these years. I'm hoping it inspires them to a CCO model to their XSE lineup, since it seems that the SCG version didn't actually go anywhere.

That Sig is tempting. I bet it runs well, but I just don't like the looks of the Sig style slide on a 1911. It's weird because I generally think Sigs are beautiful guns. I also prefer the chain link to the checkering, and I like the rounded grip of the DW.

Thankfully both are out of my price range for now.
