Want a CZ in .40...Need help!

I have had the opportunity to handle a CZ 75 compact in .40 caliber, and the gun just seems amazing to me. I am thinking about purchasing this gun, but it is a condition one style carry pistol (cocked and locked). For certain situations, I might prefer a de-cocking model.

The problem for me is that the CZ lineup seems a bit confusing. There seems to be more models/calibers out there than are on their website? Also, I was under the impression that most are DA/SA, but that also appears to be unclear.

Can someone please clarify CZ's lineup a bit? I am actually looking at these as an alternative to the 1911, so recommendations are also appreciated.

If you really like the CZ75 compact in .40S&W but don't want the locked -n- cocked feature then take a look at the P06. It's a .40 CZ75 compact w/ a frame mounted decocker, essentially it's the .40 version of the P01, which as you may well know is one incredible 9mm service pistol!
I'm no where near as knowledgeable on CZs as Armoredman(who is here on this forum) ask him, he'll steer you straight on any Q about the CZs.

The EAA Witness pistols are a CZ-75 design clone, and their standard models include a DA trigger on the first shot. IOW, you can carry one up the tube, hammer down (you lower the hammer gently with your finger / thumb blocking the firing pin), and you cock the hammer and fire in double action.

I suspect this is a characteristic of the CZ pistols, at least in some models. I see no advantage to a decocker; it's another manual-of-arms issue that complicates things....

Go with the P-06 if you have worries about DA/SA.

The P-06 is hard to find these days but wonderful when you get one.
Some guys are converting them to .357 SIG now.

The CZ 75 compact is a DA/SA pistol with a safety and no decocker. It has a firing pin lock and will not fire until the trigger is pulled, it can safely be holster carried in condition one. If you want to carry it hammer down and trigger safety on or off, you may carefully lower the hammer manually. the CZ P06 has a decocker and no trigger safety, the decocker has a hammer block for added safety in lowering the hammer. A trigger safety is just one more thing to think past in a stressfull situation. I was considering a P06 to replace a less powerfull SIG P232 .380, until I came across the CZ 75D (PCR)in 9mm. I really like the .40S&W and many pistols easily convert to the reliably feeding, flat shooting and hard hitting .357SIG, as of now CZ does not offer a factory barrel for the P06 in .357SIG.... they should! Buy a CZ, any CZ and you will see what CZ owners know and love about CZ pistols. I also love my SIG's, HK's and Glock pistols, but for concealed carry my primary pistol is the CZ PCR.

The CZ Custom Shop is converting 9mm barrels to .357 SIG for use in the
.40 caliber guns.

Mine (for sale) for a .40 RAMI was done by Nowlin.

A P-06 in .357 SIG would be a real CZexy Beast!

Especially in a state like Texas, where the .357 SIG is
popular.

MY PCR with +P+ ammo comes close, but really lacks the Magnum punch of
the .357 round.

So, can the safety be placed in the safe position with the hammer lowered on the CZ 75 compact? I plan on utilizing this gun in vehicles and while riding dirt bikes. In other words, not as a primary CCW piece. For CCW, I carry the M&P with no safety to get in the way. I want the gun to be the safest possible when carrying it around. I can move to condition one when hiking or CCW.

No, not on a CZ. Can be done with a Witness pistol.

A CZ75 Compact should be plenty safe once you gently lower the hammer on a live round.

However, like some others out there, I've did it hundreds of times, especially when they only one kid/size of a CZ pistol.

Again, if you have any safety concerns with DA/SA carry. Opt for the
decocker P-06 gun.

NO safety to worry about there, either.

I've only cursorily examined the CZ-75 pistols,

but I started with an early Springfield Armory P9 (subcompact; RAMI size, I think), and I've owned three EAAs--a 'Carry Comp' .40 on the smaller large frame, a SS .45ACP, and my current 10mm Elite Match.

Do all these 75-type pistols have the same design characteristic of having a 'negative pitch' to the barrel? That is, the muzzle is lower than the breech along the slide's horizontal axis line.

AFAICT, the only downside to that is the necessity to having a high rear sight--and probably an adjustable-height one at that. That did impact me carrying the P9--the high rear blade would tear up my hand in a rack-and-tap drill. I also found I did not want to carry it SOB; just too blocky, and besides, it was a blued gun--but those issues are beside the point.

Personally, I think the 75-design overall is excellent--it really is an improvement to the 1911 ergonomics (as was intended). The ongoing changes appear to have only refined that.

In my mind.. the sexiest semi auto ever designed is the Classic Cz75.
Nothing fits me better or performs better for me.

The RAMI and Compacts are close, but not 100% SEXY like the 75.

However, the 75 has no firing pin block and is somewhat dated in comparison
to other pistols out there.

Since you are familiar with the Witness pistols, the real deal CZ should be not much different.

The 75 design is so very good.
Many of us CZ fans own the clones,too.

The P-06 is a great gun, fits the hand perfectly and has a great balance. Mine has been 100% reliable. The natural comparison is between a P-06 and a Sig 229. As far as that goes, I personally prefer the trigger on the 229 ... and the 229 is a hair more accurate and controllable on fast shooting. The P-06 feels better in your hand (unless you put the aluminum grips on the 229), and it conceals better by a hair. If I had to choose one I'd probably go with the 229, but would be totally happy with either.
