I live in California, have many Sig products.

I want a Sig Nightmare 1911 with the bobbed grip.

It looks as though that is the only difference from the ones I own and that are Ca compliant.

Is there a LEGAL way to purchase this weapon in another state and have it in my possession in Ca?

Thanks in advance

be safe.

Can't think of a legal way, but smarter folks than me will chime in. My dad lives in Reno NV and I'm in CA. I've looked into this. He can give/sell me a gun, but it has to be shipped by ffl to CA ffl. If it's a new gun and is not on CA's roster, out of state ffls won't do it.

The other thing to keep in mind is CA handguns have to be registered with few exceptions.

Yeah its just one of those things where they have to "submit" the weapon and I believe some sort of cost for the compliant approval.

Like I said before I believe the only difference is the bobbed heel of the grip.

Bummer.

be safe

I don't think there's much you can do short of finding one being sold by someone that has moved to CA with one already in his/her possession.

Intrafamilial transfers, through an FFL, are completely legal and bypass the CA Safe Gun roster, as long as you adhere to the proscribed familial linage

If you don't have convienent family, can't find a previously owned one already in-state, and that is the only difference, you can just have it converted. Bobbing the heel isn't a major operation and shouldn't be prohibitively expensive

I don't believe the feds allow intrafamilial transfers across state lines without going thru FFL's. I don't know if this can be done with an off-roster gun. The feds don't prohibit this.

I've done several family transfers, instate and across state lines with FFL's involved. I always paid my $19 and sent it to CA DOJ with the form, which effectively registered them in my name. It's certainly nice for CA instate transfers to not have to trot down to an FFL, go thru background checks and 10 day waiting period.

I guess I wasn't clear...I've edited in a clarification above

The Intrafamilial Transfer, across state line, does have to go through an FFL...and it becomes the $25 DROS, not the $19 form; plus whatever your FFL wants to charge.

It is also important to make sure that the receiving CA FFL is familiar with the Intrafamilial interstate process...and is willing to complete the transfer. Many are not willing and others misunderstand and advise the wrong process

Depending where in Cali you are, I may be able to refer you to a good FFL dealer who understands the ins/outs of our complicated laws.
