Hi,

I was thinking about selling 22LR ammo that we have here. How do I even begin? I've put guns on that auction site and they've sold pretty well, but ammo seems to be another animal. What states can't I ship it to? Do some people exclude an entire state because of a few cities, counties, etc? How do I ship it? Was reading prior posts from 2013 and it looks like USPS is out. I went to ask questions to a local Fedex and they seemed like they were not wanting to ship it either. So that leaves just UPS. I don't want to be like those evil price gougers, so I figure we'd start the auction at one penny and let the people bid however they will. Is now a good time for that? Most shortage questions/concerns seemed to have taken place back a year ago in 2013. Are things better/worse than 2013 for 22LR?

Any helpful comments would be appreciated.

Personally, I'd just find out about what it would sell for if it were in stock at a local store and start putting out the word locally that you have some. It will go fast. No shipping hassles.

Need to find out what it is (brand) and you'll get plenty of help here.

Put it on armslist.

Sell it locally, face to face, cash, no shipping or auction site's fees.

That, gunlistings.org or here! Pretty sure there will be someone within driving distance of you that wants to pick up the stuff.

Unless you are trying to get absolute top dollar put it on some local sites and it will sell.
It's not that hard to ship but you still will have to take it to UPS.
You actually are about 6 months late to get top $. Ammo has become much more available the last couple of months.

Yeah, it has.

Except .22lr

Advertise it locally in one of the free 'shopper' / 'Trading Post' type papers.

Price it just below Walmart and the hoarders will buy yours instead of ours!

There are state or regional gun forums that you might advertise in their classified ads. Just say all sales are face to face and 22 ammo will not be shipped. See what happens. You can always do the national auction sites if nothing much happens.

It would help

If we knew what state you were in..your profile doesn't say ...

Also how much ammo, what types, etc.

Details my friend, details.

I've shipped ammo using UPS and received ammo from UPS. I agree with the other guys who said to try selling it here, unless of course you are trying to get top dollar for it. If you want "hoarder" prices, gunbroker would be your best bet. Heck, if you are in PA send me a PM and maybe we can work something out!

That's fair imo, but lets be real if you put up a brick you bought for $20 and it goes for $70 that doesn't make you any different than the person who just asked for $70 to begin with.

I think its perfectly legitimate to sell your stockpiled ammo, and perfectly legitimate to sell when the market is hot (and price accordingly). What most people here have a problem with is the people showing up at the same time as the ammo truck and buying at retail price for the sole purpose of tripling or even quadrupling the price online.

There is nothing wrong with either of those things.

shipping ammo

I shipped ammo last year from N.J. to Iowa through UPS,not a problem, just has to be shipped from a hub.FedX was a no go,they had no idea how too ship.
UPS weighed it stuck an ORMD tag on it,and away it went.
Tell me what ammo you have and I'll buy some.

I shipped some 30 06 ammo via Fed Ex this spring from Ohio to Texas. I just had to mark it per their instructions. They even picked it up at my front door. The process was very simple.

The OP seems to have left the building. As poster ohbythebay wisely suggested, more details would be helpful. Particularly his location.

If he is fairly nearby in Florida, I could meet him FTF for 2 to 3 thousand rounds.

I sent 5,000 rounds to some buddies out west because they were having trouble finding any .22 LR. I gouged them. Gave it to them but made them pay the UPS charges.
