Wanting to throw away a pistol

Pull the Barrel out, then heat the Barrel with a Torch or in your Charcoal grill, if you use the grill it will need to be fanned a little. Get it Red Hot dip it in Borax and Hammer on it until it is nice and flat an in the shape of a Knife. Finish by fililng and grinding until it looks like a knife you would use. Make sure to leave enough Tang on the end to make a nice antler or wood handle.

I've heard of beating plowshares into swords.
I've heard of beating swords into plowshares.

Beating guns into swords is a new one.

clean it up and embed it in a block of lucite as a paperweight?

other than that, I'd saw give it to a gunsmith or numrich

Gun Barrels or DX'ed ones make great knife blades. This is mostly due to the quality of the steel used to make the barrel in the first place.

Make sure its unloaded and get a nice hot charcoal fire going. Toss it in and after a while you should find a deformed chunk of metal.

I'm with the gun art enthusiasts - lucite or non-functional/gilded, etc..

If you had someone local who wanted to work on their engraving skills, I'm sure they'd appreciate a POS to work on.

Keep it and proudly encase it as a conversation piece. When friends come around, tell them stories of how you and this old girl Nellie fought together in many wars. When the enemy was within a rifle's reach fixed with bayonete, and your primary was jammed in the thick of the blood bath, you could count on Nellie. :D

cut it bash it whatever to break the reciever and toss it in the trash.

Be wary of just throwing it in the trash in its (legally) working order. I forget exactly but I believe legally speakign that is bad juju

There are alot of gunsmiths in training that would love that gun to practice on.
This is one:
I am currently taking a Gunsmithing course with plans to open my own shop in the
next two
years.

I have scoured all the local shops buying low cost guns to work on and gain
experience.
However the supply has dwindled.
I am wondering if anyone out there has any damaged, broken or unwanted guns of
little or
no value that they would be willing to part with?

I am located in the Fox Valley area but would be willing to come and pick them
up.

Thanks

I have a beat up old Llama .32 ACP pistol in utter disrepair. It is rife with bent pins, worn out disconnecter, some rust, bent magazine, etc. It is horribly unreliable, jamming twice per magazine, sometimes spitting out live rounds along with the empty case. The slide bites my hand and draws blood within 15 or so rounds.

Every thing that you listed is easy to fix.

Give or sell it to one of the members that asked for it.
Send them a E-Mail. Please don’t be a part of the group
that thinks we should destroy guns.

I buy old guns that are so wore out or unsafe that
brand new original parts would not help them work.
They are in no uncertain terms junk when I get them.
I restore them to life.

I agree with the replies about Numrich, to the gunsmith for parts, etc.. Also have it go to someone who would work with it. Let someone love it! :uhoh:

My dad ran into a similar problem with an old 9mm in the 80s. He was going through 2-3 boxes of ammo a night for an extended period, while trying to kill off a rat infestation in an old barn on a farm we had just bought (don't ask me why he didn't just use rat poison I have no idea). Anyway he shot the bore clean out of the gun and it became unsafe to shoot. He broke it down into as many pieces as possible, then threw them away slowly over the course of a year.

Thanks for the advice

I really appreciate the advice everybody has given. I believe I'll check and see if Numrich wants it. As for the people who have asked about purchasing it, I reiterate that I cannot sell it in good conscience as a shootable weapon. I'm not trying to snub anybody, or go for the biggest buck. I just don't want to be responsible for anybody being injured.

I'll look into selling Numrich everything but the damaged pieces. Again, thanks.

You could always make it a hood ornament:D if the gun place doesnt want it for parts.

seriously though, Id give it to a smith for a fun new project.:D Sometimes they can fit the parts of your gun to another brand to get it to work without having to make or hunt for a new one.

I hope it works out for you at the gunparts place.

i posted this same thread a while back. i had a jennings 380 i wanted to trash or dispose of and ended up getting 50 bucks for it :D
