I have a single shot, bolt-action, .22 rifle marked 'Wards Western Field 39a .22 s-l-lr.' It appears to be the same rifle as the Mossberg 14.
There are two slots and a screw hole on the left-hand side of the receiver. Does anyone know if this is for a peep sight and, if so, do you know what model the original peep sight was and where I could find one? Or, do you know of a suitable replacement?
What I find confusing is that the front sight is a blade sight and appears original and it has a ramp style rear sight that also appears original. From my limited experience with these, the Mossbergs did not have the traditional iron sights but instead had a hooded front sight and rear peep sight.
Thanks!
