I think this has been posted before but can't hurt to warn again. I just got this on my email.....Car jackers put a piece of paper on the back window of cars in parking lots and garages. When the driver comes, unlocks, gets in, starts car, probably leaves purse (if female) on seat, and then sees paper....gets out of car with engine running, or at least key in ignition, to remove paper from back window....car jackers suddenly appear, grab car, the purse, identity, etc, etc and drive off. IF YOU SEE A PIECE OF PAPER ON THE BACK WINDOW IN A PUBLIC PARKING AREA IGNORE IT AND LOCK YOUR DOORS AND GET THE HECK OUT OFTHERE!

wow! that's kind of clever, but I wonder how often it works, I see cars with handbills on them all the time, people just drive off with them still under the wipers, wonder how likely someone would be if it was the back window.

Yup, I'd heard of that. They used to do that in Florida.

Also, there's the most basic fact that most carjackings don't involve any sort of smashing anything, they just run up and OPEN THE UNLOCKED DOOR at a traffic light.

ALWAYS LOCK YOUR DOORS

Flyer's on windshields.

Folks do not see these until they get inside, or they have hands full with a kid and packages.

Two things :
1. Folks getting back out, and getting into trouble
2. The persons putting these on windshields are not really paid attention to. Often ignored. While many are legit, anyone can have a stack of something and be trying doors to see if locked, peeking inside for valuables or packages.
Some folks reading / listening to a ball game out in the parking lot, while wife/ hubby runs inside real quick can be snuck up on.

-
Watch for folks wearing a safety vest like the employees do bringing in shopping baskets. Are they actually gathering baskets, or wandering around for easy prey?

-

Look under your vehicle as you approach, especially in parking decks, or evening hours.
BGs can grab ankles and pull your feet out from under you as you unlock the door.
Sometimes one pulls, and once you are down, one/others come to take valuables, even car.
Serious injuries to head, neck, and busted hips can result.

Lonely stop lights, signs. Granted the window washers are not out in the winter, still folks handing out flyers for shopping sales, invites to churches, and "gifts" from cards, to ice scrapers ...are 'ploys ' to get folks to let guard down.
Not to mention the normal pan-handlers.
